Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Not much. Some of the very senior divisions become eligible for Adopt a Sailor, where they can send paperwork for family to take them out for the day. Your recruit will probably not be eligible for that. Some divisions get taken to dinner by church groups, but because of security that information is not released to the public beforehand. Basically, Christmas day is "holiday routine" like a Sunday. They can choose to go to church, have some time to write letters and do chores like ironing, and the chow hall does a really nice dinner for them. You can send a card, but no gifts.

While they are at basic can you send packages with snacks? Can you send cookies at Christmas?

No packages at all, no snacks, no cookies. They must be very careful with what comes in, so they allow nothing. Cards with some personal photos are appreciated.

Thanks for info. I had no idea. I have NO experience with military except a friend whose son went to basic for National Guard last year. That must be very different, they could get goodie boxes and kept their cell phones. They didn't get their phone unless they earned a call but it stayed on the base locked up. She sent him all kids of treats and stuff. Just letters it is!
