Everyday gets so much better for me, emails twice a day and now she calls!!! Her voice comforted me like a blanket comforts an infant! I couldn't help but smile extra hard and I know she could tell my lips where touching my ears lol. We talked about the job and how hot the ship is and then the most stupidest question came up....

"lace, are you sure you can do this"....

I swear I had a blank look on my face........Immediately I knew it came from somewhere. A friend of a friend got the DEAR JOHN LETTER. OMG you stress me came to mind!! At that moment I knew she needed comfort and to choose my words carefully. A lot of times we think about our feelings but the reality that they have to deal with never really comes to our mind.

I soften my voice and gave the support speech and reassured her that everything we do is a team effort; I can't do this without her and vice versa. After the phone called ended I followed up the conversation with an email. I realize that reassurance and emotional comfort will be a big part of this deployment.

Glad you got a phone call. I can not wait until boot camp is over and I can talk to sailor. It has been a long six weeks..It is hard, I to have been asked that question, can I do this, and sometimes we want to scream, as hard as our sailors jobs are, our job is just as hard. We give them the love and support they need to get through day to day, so good for you for staying strong! Best of luck to both of you during this hard time. I am sure you will both make it through this just fine and in time things will get easier!

Yes, they CAN do it!! A positive attitude is a MUST especially coming from the outside of RTC. The next two weeks will go by very fast, and before you know it you will be at Great Lakes attending PIR...and bootcamp will be in the distant past. Congratulations!

So jealous you got a phone call. My boyfriend has never called from the ship during underways or anything because he was told it was really expensive. We'll probably do one call a month.

I've tried to reassure my boyfriend as much as possible that as much as I hate this, I love him more and he has nothing to worry about. He's never voiced any concerns, but I'm sure it goes through the mind of every sailor with a partner at home no matter how much they trust them & I don't ever want him worrying about that kind of thing.

Hey Ashley,
How are thing going for you? I'm extremely lucky that I get to hear from her pretty often, but I know that can change with the wind! And believe me all you can do is reassure... After my speech she felt better plus knowing that my mother is mentoring me during this time was icing on the cake lmao.
From what she says their days are so long (12-14 hrs) that all they want is sleep so I know communication will be short at times but hang in there!!

It's going slow, but I'm dealing with it ok I guess. My boyfriend's days are pretty ridiculous (5 & dimes) so he's always tired, but he's able to send an email or two a day which is really nice. Mostly right now I'm trying to come up with little projects & stuff to do. Going to start working on his first care package, but kind of at a loss for what to include because of space limitations. When my dad was in Afghanistan, we could pretty much send whatever he wanted in big boxes because he had a lot of space but unfortunately they aren't that lucky on the ship.

How are you dealing with it all?

As you start doing things time will fly by believe me. I piled on projects and my mother is starting a bakery, so everything I can do I add it to the list! I started her care package and did a personal theme " I'm always with you" and added things that she loved about me ... Im a big kid so I put in UNO cards and our favorite cartoon, im also a romantic so I put in scented candles... And did little things like that on top of the things she needs. But I promise you things will get better..... I went from crying buckets to actually functioning lol
