Daughter a few weeks out for boot camp.

Well, looks like our daughter finally made it into the USN.  In 2009 she signed into the DEP program (sr. in high school) and was heading in as an OS.  She decided 4 short months later she didn't want to be in the Navy and got out of the DEP program.  Several months went by and when she graduated high school she signed up for college but found out quickly that her heart just wasn't into it.  She started talking to her recruiter and got her weight back to where she needed it to be.  On Jan. 6th she left for Meps and on Jan 7th she called to tell my husband and I that she was offered an IT job.  She signed the paperwork and was told she would be heading out to Great Lakes on Feb. 14th.  I was shocked to say the least...that was super fast.  I have a little over a month with her.  So, now I am officially a Navy mom.  I hope she gets through boot camp just fine.  I do believe this is what she needs and hope all goes well for her.

Congratulations.  I'm so glad your daughter has figured herself out.  I'm sure she will do fine in MEPS.  Our son left a week ago and letting go was the hardest thing i've ever had to do.  All we can do is love them up while we have them, and love them enough to let them go and make a life for themselves.  All the best to your daughter and family!

You both are so right.  We are enjoying these last few weeks together.  I believe she will be fine...she has always been one tough cookie.  I just have to find something to do with all my time that will be free and alone.  I am a stay at home mom and my babies have grown up.  It will definitely be a whirlwind for me these next few weeks.  I want it to slow down and it can't get here soon enough for her.  I have put together a going away get together with friends and family and I know she will love seeing everyone so I have that to plan out.  Thank you both for commenting...felt great knowing someone else has been there or is doing that.  Thanks for the kind words and wishing you all the best.

Thanks Linda and yes we do live close.  We've been in Athens almost 4 years now.  We moved here from Arab.  My husband was driving to and from Browns Ferry and the drive just got to be pretty tough.  So we decided to move up to Athens after our oldest daughter graduated Arab HS.  We are both getting anxious (Amber and I) as she will be heading out soon.  She is asking her dad about how the Navy was for him and then she comments...that's old school (lol).  Talked to her recruiter today and all is good to go.  I'm glad your son is doing so well...that is so nice to hear.  I hope Amber does well to and likes it.  I believe she'll be fine...it's me that won't do as well.  Our oldest left to go to college and that hit me hard as I passed her room every day.  One of my friends told me that whatever you do don't go in her room and start looking around at her stuff and pictures.  I did and yep I cried like a big old baby.  I'm doing a lot better because she is in her last year of nursing school and is commuting and I'm okay with her coming and going now.  I'm sure with Amber it'll be quiet the adjustment...hard to say goodbye to her since she has always been here with mom.  Glad you posted...I was beginning to think I was the only one up here in north Alabama.  You have a great looking family and thanks for posting.  Take care and hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  =^.^=
