It's been 3 days & I can't help but wonder what's going on & how my son is doing.  Going about my business at work, I received a call from the front desk to come up when I had a chance.  Low & behold 1800Flowers had been by.  I received a bright & cheery bouquet of flowers, but best of all a note from my son.  He got me & everyone else in the office!  "Hey I know you want me to write you as much as I can, so I thought I'd get a jump on it and let you know that everything is going great and I'm awesome at everything I'm doing! LOL I love you a ton Mom!"  Geeze, now I know without a shadow of a doubt I have raised a terrific young man!  Good luck son & to all the new Navy SR.

Hi Kim, thats a Precious Gift you received from your Son Yes you did a Great Job and he sounds like a Wonderful Young Man and the best to him in BC.My son is in Great Lakes since August 16th and he just started A School and every little note, text message, quick call, letter its so important for us to have a connection with them. Its a bit easier now for us to communicate but the Missing My only Son Part is pretty much the same is very hard and the one thing that keeps it together is that its for their benefit and a bright future for them and a part of growing up. Just hang in there Boot Camp is very tough for your Sailor and for You but before you know it youll be Hugging him at PIR Graduation time start saving your pennies its an amazing event in your sons life and your family .This support group and the one from your same PIR date will be very helpful for those times you need a friend to share your feelings of missing him and a shoulder to cry on.The Best to your Recruit and Keep in touch,Maria Navy25

Kim - I cried as I read your blog... Your son will do amazing in boot-camp I can tell... You already raised an amazing son and now the Navy is going to polish him and add some nice finishing touches to him. He is going trough processing this first week, shots, dr's and dentisit.. I was out of my mind the first couple weeks wondering what was going on.. Then his first letter came and he said mom this is not as bad as I thought it would be. He said the first couple of weeks dragged because there was so much rushing here and there to sit around and wait.. You can call his recruiter to get the address and start mailing letters it was very theraputic for me knowing I was trying to reach out to him even if he didnt get mail for a couple weeks... Boot-camp is the first step to an amazing life that will unfold for him.. MY son has now joined the Fleet and he is on his first 6 month deployment... ALthough PIR seems so far away it will come quick... And the min those doors open up and see the divisons marching in your soul begins to dance with excitment... Bravo to you and your Sailor... Anna

i have tears rolling down my face right now. What a blessing you recieved!! My son left on the 7th for BC. I recieved "The Box" with his belongings 2 days ago and waiting to get his address. I can't wait to hear from him.

My son went off to college here in NC but only lasted 3 months before coming home. He was so homesick and couldn't do it. After coming home, going to the community college here and working he realized he needed to get his life in order. At 20 yrs. old enlisted.

I was counting down the months before he would be gone. Sick of tired of cleaning up his messes, not knowing where he was half the time, and being disrespectful to his family. I had had it!

The day we dropped him off he had tears in his eyes and kept telling us he loved us. Now, I can't keep it together. All I do is find myself looking for him to walk in the door, or go to his room to be close. It is so nice to know we have moms going through the same stuff and we can relate to them.

If they can do this, then we CERTAINLY can!

It is an emotional journey, that's for sure.  I got two books that really helped me know what my son was doing and what to expect.  It was comforting to read week to week as he was going through boot, but sometimes I thought maybe I didn't want to know.  Either way, I felt closer to him and when he'd call or write, I had somewhat of a clue of what he was talking about.  "Honor, Courage, Commitment". and "When the Eagle Invades the Nest" Good luck!
