Well i can say this has been an adventure for all of us we're 5 & a half weeks into it and she has been doing really good. Her division seems to be awesome! But yesterday i got a phone call from her. She was very upset she has been taken out of drill due to a stress fracture in her leg. She will be in recovery for 6 to 8 weeks before she can complete basic. She was removed from her division yesterday she is so upset her graduation date has been changed we'll know it a later date. I feel so helpless. I write everyday sometimes twice a day. And i try to be encouraging. But i feel like it's not enough. Any suggestion? I need some help to get through this. --God keep her safe and let her complete basic as soon as possible!!!--

This happened to my friend, his leg was broken by another recruit who accidentally "marched into" him!!! He hated the temporary ship at first, but then he talked to the petty officers in charge and asked them what he could do for them. He helped with paperwork and filing, ran the desk for them, volunteered for everything he could. He tried to work on leadership courses and such which he would need later, and to study. He didn't let the whiners and slackers get him down, which is a very real possibility when they are who you're around all the time. So she needs to know she will get through this, that a positive attitude will go far, and to talk to her POs to see what they can and will let her do to help out and/or make progress while she is healing.

My friend did not end up with a PIR, which is sad, so don't mention it right away. That's a maybe, she might have one after all. You certainly can visit her when she finishes.

Best wishes and speedy recovery!

It can be hard to know your child is in pain or unhappy, the best you can do is what you probably have always done encourage her to keep going and stay strong. I like the suggestions that Anti M gave you as well. She will graduate this is just a bump in her path and they will be watching to see how she handles it. I am new to Navy for Moms but my family has had several members in the service, 3 in the Navy, so I am not new to the life. From what I understand they put the cadets through sections 3 weeks at a time maybe she won't have to go all the way to the beginning when she is ready to complete her training. She is a member of the United States Service, they won't leave her hanging out any longer than they have to, she will graduate, it will just be a bump in the road. Everyone has their boot camp days stories and one day she will be telling "the what happened to me in boot camp" and this will make hers different from the rest. My son did injure himself and contract strep but he was just waylaid a few days, although there was a concern that he would be able to meet the physical tests requirements, he worked hard and excelled. He just completed boot camp and is in "A" school now.

My daughter called last week, and informed me she had sprained her knee. Maybe she wouldn't be able to graduate June 18th. I haven't heard anything as of yet. Keep us in your prayers

My son joined boot camp Feb. 26th....we received the standard form letter...graduation was to be April 20th. Received a phone call yesterday, 3/19... Graduation is moved to 4/27 and son has changed Ship and Div. He couldn't tell us why this happened....we are of course concerned....he had called 2 nights prior and indicated he couldn't handle this mentally. Not feel ing too positive right now.

Hope it all works out. Being away and mostly out of touch is hard.
