Finally my son classed up and started school on Tuesday the 8th after being in Pensacola since February. He's so ready to move on to something else. He was fortunate enough to fly home over Memorial Day weekend. Me and his brothers drove him back to Pensacola and were able to stay for a few days. Unfortunately my husband had to work and couldn't go with us. I really hated to leave, I miss him so much. But at least he's busy with school now and able to take his mind off being homesick. One of his friends was killed in a car wreck a few weeks ago and he was really having a difficult time with it. Hopefully he'll get to come back home for a few days after he graduates from A-school.

Good for him - YAY! My son waited 3 months to class up last year in Pensacola. I think it was a good lesson for them to learn patience and perserverance - even thought I'm sure they don't agree... :o)

LOL, you'll find with the military that things are "hurry up and wait." But it's not surprising when you think how LARGE it is. When they're given a date for "A" school, that's actually when they arrive at their "A" school. When they leave boot camp and get to their "A" school, I would think it's very very rate to immediately start the next day (though I have heard of it). They have to wait for enough Sailors arriving to make a complete "class" or "school." I mean, if Bobby arrives on Tuesday there may be only 3 Sailors there for that particular school. So sometimes they have to wait for additional Sailors to arrive from Boot Camp. They have to move out the Boot Camp Sailors to make room of the new Boot Camp recruits arriving. So this results in "lag" times. If they're in hold (waiting) then they can work out, some volunteer at places on base. When they "class up" this means YAY, class is actually going to start! :o) The entire first week they have classes on finances, Navy rules while at "A" school, personal stuff. And the following week is when classes begin. During the 3 months my son was on hold, he spent that time working out and getting in further shape. He's a rescue swimmer so he didn't mind the wait cuz he loves working out. Any other questions, please ask .. :o)
