Well it was a countdown that started almost a year ago and now we are down to weeks before my son leaves for basic. The next couple of weeks are going to certainly fly because there is so much going on between now and his ship date of July 7th. I have been keeping my mind busy by putting together his high school graduation party/going away party. I had to have his party the week before he actually graduates because there was no time in between graduation date of June 28th and his leave date of July 7th. Been very emotional the last several days because first he is my youngest and his milestone of graduating high school is big all in itself and then to have him leave the week after graduation onto his next milestone is just a lot to handle all at once. I know he doesn't understand what it is I'm going through emotionally and that's ok because I'm sure he is dealing with his own emotions as well. Just have to keep pushing forward and not let him see me wearing my emotions on my sleeve and just keep that strong front for him. I will break down completely once I am alone.
Join DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 07/07/2015 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Check your My Page for more info.
Denise I'm glad to hear there is someone else out there that went through what I am going through now. I've had my good and bad days but I keep busy to keep my mind off of things. If your son left July 7th did he graduate sometime in September? I am just very impatient and try and look ahead instead of waiting for my letter....lol. I have what I guess you can say is one of my "adopted" sons that is graduating today from the Army and I cannot wait to see him. This was something that he wanted so badly and had some health issues that kept delaying his leave for basics and I know this was also something he needed for his attitude so I am really looking forward to seeing if there is a change in him. Did you notice a difference in your son after he graduated?
Debbie, by counting 9 Fridays, PIR is most likely 09/04/2015, but since he is shipping on a Tuesday, PIR could be the week before, 09/28/2015, if he is placed in a division for the week before and is in a Push Division. You will just have to wait on The Form Letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
