My son shipped out today. We were fortunate enough to be able to attend the swearing in ceremony. It helped to see my son in a group of his peers swearing in with confidence and sure in his decision.
Its been a rough couple of days, today being by far the hardest for me. That last heart wrenching hug and watching him walk down the hall.. :/ I've been a sobbing slobbering mess ever since.
So...to the moms and dads out there waiting for their phone call I want you to know I'm thinking of you too and I am comforted at least in seeing the group of men and women my son is leaving with. I saw they are like-minded and were bonding quickly. So thank you for that-its the peace of mind I needed at that time.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January, to connect with others with loved ones who left today and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

(Group names within this reply are clickable links. To join a group, click on the group name and after the group page opens, click on "+ Join..." in the upper right.)

I am still numb since last week. The box was shipped home. I cried. 3 days later, I received his first call via/cell voice mail. I was washing clothes and didn't hear the phone. Let's just say, my cell is at my side ever since. He said that he will try again in 2 weeks. For me, that is eternity!

My son is my rock. We have a very close relationship and I can't describe the meotional roller coaster I am on. I can't wait for the letters to arrive, at least I will know he is okay.

Thanks for all those links. I haven't recieved the letter of his address/ship/etc.

I have so many questions. but I see there are many links to follow.

Thank you and I am so excited to have found this page!!

How do I access the  MEPS site?

I'm glad to help.  Do a search on fB for the MEPS he shipped from. Which one was it?  Perhaps I can help.

Hang on... the next couple weeks are hard.

1st... Thank you to your son for his service.

2nd... Those phone calls are precious and few.  They tell them they will get calls but they are all earned.  They can come any day of the week.  You will hear many say they missed them... I was one... and it hurts really bad you feel like you failed your child.

3rd... Join the PIR group for his Graduation date it is the best theropy in the world.  You all have a common ground.

and last..Get those letters ready.  Your first letter will be a form letter and it will have his address.  He is dying for mail by this point.  Keep them interesting... read the pages here to see what you can send to make it more relaxing for him and you.

Good luck to you and welcome to N4M.

My son, Dan, was also sworn in yesterday about 10am and left for boot camp.  I'm glad he had his cell phone so I could connect with him throughout the day.  He was at O'Hare for a few hours before they picked him up.  When I got the "I'm here" call about 8:30pm I was relieved.  His call only lasted 13 seconds so I felt a little cheated!  He is our youngest and we are now empty nesters.  I don't think the reality of it all has hit me yet- though I am confident in his decision and very proud of him.  I am so happy and relieved that I have found this site with all the information and helpful hints for Navy Moms.

Thinking of you as we go through similar experiences-

I don't know if it has fully hit me yet either.  I was watching a musical yesterday it was upbeat and funny and then all of the sudden I started to just cry out of nowhere!  It has been hitting me in waves, crashing waves!  I feel bad, your call was 13 seconds my call was 19 seconds long. It kind of tickled me because it was absolutely not his words coming out of his mouth.

I agree this site has been a lifesaver, it's a lonely feeling anyway-and my friends don't really know  how to react when I am losing it infront of them.

Hoping our time to PIR passes quickly and we can see our boys again soon

I am relate to crying for no reason. Someone said it best, this is like 9 months of carrying a baby and not knowing how they are going to turn out to be.

All I can think of tonight is, brrr it's chilly in Nassau County, FL, not the cold my Florida Boy feels in Illinois. Sending him warm hugs and lots of prayers!!!!!

I'm up at 3am watching the RTC videos and thinking of my son- made me feel a little better.   I wrote him this morning and will number the envelopes for him until I get an address.  A few months back, he bought me a Proud Parent of a Sailor decal for my car and I told him I was going to wait to put it on until he was in boot camp ( I think secretly hoping he wasn't going)  I better get my car washed and put it on now :)

I can hold it together during the day at work, but find myself wondering what he is doing/feeling now often when I am home and it is quiet.  Hoping to keep busy over the 3 day holiday weekend.

Nice to know other Moms are thinking about their recruits too.
