One week ago today, we were finishing up our time with our son. God is good!!! Of course, that goes without saying! It is amazing how much it takes for me to believe He has our best interests in mind. When I could finally relax and realize He had it all together, everything fell beautifully into place.

Last Wednesday, our third child was in the process of getting his driver's license. My husband had some questions about our insurance, so he and I had been calling each other back and forth. He was talking to our agent when he heard the phone beep, indicating an incoming call. He thought it was me calling him back, so he let it go to voicemail. When he checked later, he saw it was Justin. We listened to that message maybe ten times (okay, okay...we listened to it more than that...just to make sure).

"I'm doing Battlestations tonight..." was the basic message. He thought he might get to call before he started, as he hadn't talked to us voice-to-voice.

Mike and I talked about it, prayed about it, and decided that we needed to get there for graduation on Friday. We knew he wouldn't get to participate in a formal graduation, but we wanted to be there should he be given a few hours of liberty. We decided we would drive -- 21 hours there. If we left Wednesday evening we could be there by Thursday late afternoon.

When I got home from work, Mike told me to call Southwest "just to see" if they would do anything as far as our previous tickets were concerned. I had purchased them early for our original 9/28 PIR date for only $275 each. When we had to cancel due to our son's stress fractures and time in RCU, that money was put into each of our accounts. I called Southwest and explained our situation. I was told to call their headquarters in Dallas, which I did. The woman I spoke with, after hearing our "issue," said, "Let me do this for you. When do you want to fly out?" I told her we needed to leave the next morning. "I have a 7 am flight." I said we would take it. "When would you like to return?" I told her Saturday or Sunday. "All those flights are completely booked. How about Monday?" I agreed.

We had looked online. Those tickets were close to $1000 each...money we didn't have...which is why we planned to drive. When I asked the representative what the cost of those last-minute Thursday - Monday tickets would be, she said, "I'm sorry. You'll have to pay an additional $31 per ticket." She apologized??? My teeth almost fell out!

She worked it out so that our kids (those who wanted to go with us) could go at the same rate. Unbelievable! Okay...all this based on an "I'm doing Battlestations tonight" phone call. Everything was falling into place. God had everything under control.

A friend of ours was at our house at 4 am Thursday morning to take us to the airport. Our oldest daughter met us there, and we were in Chicago by 12:30. Both Mike and I were slightly anxious waiting for the "I'm a Sailor" call we knew we should receive. We watched the clock. We got it at 2:55. He was surprised and pleased that we were already there. However, we still didn't know how long we would be able to see him.

As it turned out, he had a weekend of liberty. Through an "odd" chain of events, we attended graduation and found someone who knew someone who could help us find Justin. We connected at around 3 pm. We could have our Sailor until 8 pm that night...and 6 am - 8 pm Saturday and Sunday. What a blessing!!! We had to leave when his liberty was over.

We could not have planned it better ourselves...
