My son leaves for BC on June 3rd, wow it is getting harder the closer it gets! Everyone says oh, you should just be proud, which I am, but I am so heartbroken right now, I can't feel anything else. His dad and step dad and aunts and uncles are like so happy for him and keep telling me I should be also, I feel like nobody understands, I am his mom. I feel so selfish and numb. I do not break down in front of him, but dreading the day he leaves.... Bootcamp and six years is what I cannot get my head/heart around. I don't want him to push me away because everyone is so supportive and I am so sad.

About the "Box", thank goodness I joined this website, if I would have received that box without knowing when and why it was coming, it would have been horrible!! It will probably still be hard, but at least I know it is coming and why now! Lemonelephant, thank you for all the info!!!

You are so welcome.

Lemonelephant is the best! I was talking about her last night with some friends who have just heard about my son's decision to enlist. One of them said "How are you learning all of this stuff??". I said "On Navyformoms" and if I don't know something then lemonelephant fills me in!" They agreed that we were lucky to have her and that someone needs to do this for colleges...and high schools! Everyone needs a Lemonelephant to clear things up! Thanks again!

Yes, true, my son was not even asking questions with his recruiter, I would call or text recruiter because he didn't know! I am very surprised the recruiter didn't give me this website, lol!!

Some recruiters do provide info about N4M and http://www.navydep.com (that's for your future Sailor) and some (many) don't.

You are very welcome. My son's recruiter did tell me about it but I had already found the site!

my husband knows I will be a basket case when our son leaves on July 16th. He suggeted the other night that i go buy some cards and stationary and stamps and set them aside. He said every morning take one out and write to him like you are talking to him while you sit and have your coffee. I love this idea and my hubby is so sweet for trying to prepare me now. I suggest you do the same and also set a time of the day for him to just say" mom" to himself and at the same time you will say his name out loud. It helps. I currently have a daughter who lives in TN and we moved to Fl for my husbands work a year ago. Everyday I talk out loud to her for just few minutes and it helps since I know she is in school or at work and can't always call. I know the day is upon you and wish you all the best. My day is coming.
