My Navy girl, my daughter called the other day very home sick crying. We have not seen her for almost a year. I decided that it would be a lot easier if I came up with something creative.

I bought a couple of watches and I decided to syncronize them to beep every 5 hours. I send her a note saying that every time her watch goes off, mine will go off at the same time. I told her to close her eyes, at that very momment my eyes will be closing too. I will be thinking of her happy thoughts as she will be doing the same thing too. I think that this idea will help her a lot and it will help me as well. I hope this will help others like it helped us. God bless..!

Thank you so much, it is so hard for me because we are so close. She is a country girl and we are very close with all of our kids. My son was in the Army and I did not see him for 5 years, that about kill me, but my daughter is missing home a lot. You are right, boys are different, but they miss their parents too, especially their mamas. Thank you and God bless all our kids everywhere.

This may sound silly....but find the Fifel song on You tube. The lyrics are "Somewhere out there beneath the pale moon light, someone's thinking of you and loving you tonight. Somewhere out there, someone saying a prayer, that we'll find one another, somewhere out there, out where dreams come true. And even though I know how very far apart we are....it helps to think we might be looking at that same bright start." Okay I admit it came from kid's Disney movie....but I sang it as a lullaby to my step-children before we hung the phone or they went home to their mother's when they were young. A couple days ago, I sent those lyrics to my son at boot camp to remind him that at a certain time every night we would heart to heart and not that far apart. I hope that it serves that purpose for you as well. I love your watch idea~~

This made me just bust out crying. My daughter left for bootcamp 3 weeks ago & I have been pretty good with the crying but every now & then something just sets me off. My neice got engaged this week & all I could think of was how my daughter won't be able to be at her cousins wedding next summer. That's really tough. Thanks for this idea... I think it is a wonderful idea. I haven't talked to her on the phone yet, we are hoping this Sunday, she calls.

sorry your daughter is so homesick and as a mom it makes us just want to do anything to take the pain away .does she live far from you maybe you could surprise her sometime and go visit her make you both feel better good.i know plane tickets are not cheap but maybe you could save up some money for when she can get time of. i think the watch is a really nice idea it made me think a lot about my son and how much i miss himand the smile on his face. hope your daughter feels better soon tell her there are a lot of moms thinking about her.if she is in a different state it would be good if she had a adopt a sailor but if its a ship that would not help her.good luck to both of you

Homesick Navy Girl What state is your daughter in?
This is so sad it touched my heart...I have a son in the navy..Would it help to have a few Navy moms writing her from different places....I'd be glad to drop her a letter in the mail..I'm from WA state..

Be careful - she sounds great and a few of us Navy Moms with sons might think she's a great catch! My son is just in BC start of week #2 - and I have been looking for the Disney song lyric - thanks for all your posts. It helps me realize I'm not overreacting to missing my son - we were connected at the constant text just for no reason at all. I love the support from this group - you are all amazing! Others at work and family tell me it's time to cut the cord, but I love knowing I'm not alone.

Lynne, I know that movie (An American Tail). It's not Disney, it is a Don Bluth film. I used to sing that song when my husband (then fiancée) was at sea on WestPac (6 month deployment), and it was our wedding song when he returned.

Somewhere Out There

written by James Horner, Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil

Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight

Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there if love can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there if love can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

You might want to try Molly's Adopt a Sailor Program to have someone else writing to her and sending her care packages. That is what Soldiers' Angels does. Each service member submited is assigned their very own adopting angel who writes a letter once a week and sends a care pkg. at least once a month. She sends BD cards, holiday cards, special things they are hungry for or hygiene needs they have. And the Ladies of Liberty Team supports groups of ladies serving together giving them the special TLC a lady sailor, soldier, marine, air force...needs. They also have a team called CardsPlus or something like that. They angels send cards and letters to those who need extra support. I don't know what all Molly has set up for Adopt a Sailor but maybe she has similar subgroups. May God hear your cry for help and answer you. I think your idea with the watches was wonderful and the song above too. Blessings,

This really touched my heart. I miss my sailor a lot. He is my oldest and the first to leave the nest. I wouldn't mind dropping your daughter a letter. I'm in CA. Senda my a message with the address. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Take care.
