We made reservations at the Navy Lodge and you are able to cancel/change your reservation if you find out the PIR date is going to be different.

Most hotels in the Great Lakes area have a very liberal cancellation policy. It is always to your benefit to look at the reviews on the hotels you are wondering about. The reviews, in general, are from Navy families in for the weekend.

Most of the hotels are fine for graduation weekend, a couple of them very (very, very) questionable, but reading the reviews it will be a tell all. Remember, no hotel is perfect, and they all will have a couple "bad" reviews, but you will get a pretty clear picture by reading.  No I will not list them, but guarantee if you post you are staying at one of them,  someone will chime in and tell you to read the reviews. :)

Check the prices online, and also call the hotel directly. When you call the hotels directly tell them you are coming in for Navy graduation, they may have a better rate for you directly than online.

Please join your PIR group when it is posted, there will be lots of hotel info, and other info for you in that group.

when did your son arrive in Great Lakes for boot camp? just asking as my son arrived and got his call 6/13 so just concerned about not getting the form letter yet, but I heard it can take 2-3 weeks. any info is helpful :)

Thank you

Karin the form letter is received 9 to 14 days after the box, remember on the 5 th Business day which would of been either the 20th or 21st he would of did his first initial run if passed then the form letter will be sent, if failed he would of had 48 hrs to retest. here is more info for you. Your recruit will send The Form Letter once Phase I is over and s/he has passed the first PFA and has officially been assigned to a ship and division. (See When to Expect Your Form Letter and  Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.)

On about their fifth business day at the RTC, the new recruits are tested on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 7 seconds for female recruits. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. Those who pass continue with BC. Those who do not pass are moved to FIT and will be retested in 48 hours and must pass in order to continue at the RTC. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.

If they fail the initial test the first time do you get a phone call or only if they fail a second time and have to go home?
Comment by ellen0502 on June 26, 2018 at 10:26pm

You won't get a call the first time, but it may take some extra time to receive the form letter.
