I'm sooo upset, my husband and I have been separated for 4 and a half months...which wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have a 5 month old baby at home. He went to basic then straight to BESS in Groton, CT. He graduated BESS Oct. 8th and we are still waiting for orders. They are telling us that it could be due to the fact that this is the end of the Navy's fiscal year so they don't have money to move us at this time.

The dilemma: My husband wants us to pack up the car and move without orders... We live in KY and this is a 17hour drive. I am very tempted to do this, he said he can get a letter to be able to move from the barracks into housing and they will correct our BAH once I arrive and his food allowance (So he doesn't have to eat at the Galley).

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing? How long does it take for them to correct your BAH? If we moved, would the military pay to move our things after we drove up, upon receiving orders?

I really appreciate any information, since I am in the dark and we can't get much out of anyone on base.

Respectfully,

Tasha

Denise, he's moving on verbal orders?

Denise,

My husband says all he needs is a "piper letter" which allows him to move out of the barracks and get housing off base. He wanted me to come on the 1st of the month and he had planned to sign a lease for the navy housing with balfour beatty in groton, ct. He wanted me to leave before the first, arrive then, and move into the new place. He said that the housing office would process our new bah and it would take them 1 to 2 pay periods to correct the bah. Thanks for your info..I'm still trying to figure out what's going on and make an educated decision...

I've seen hard copy orders come in and be the exact opposite of what was issued verbally, and so has my hubby. It can happen, and often does. Fingers crossed, huh? But he can't check out of his old command without orders. So I'm more than a little confused, the Navy won't reimburse him for a move done before the orders were cut. The receipts, etc, will be dated!

I've seen several impatient folks wondering if they can move on the verbal orders. No. There is a number on the orders which must be attached to everything related to the transfer, including moving the family.

Tasha,
Im am in the same situation! My husband has been in groton CT, sence Aug 10th. we have been waiting for the orders to move out sence then. i know the letter your talking about and it's true he can get housing but u will have to pay for getting urself there and for getting all ur stuff packed and moved! Yes they will reimburse you for your expences but don't expect the money anytime soon. I've learned the hard way time and time again not to take anyones "word" for anything and when it happens it will happen. I hope you get ur orders soon and don't have to go through the worry of moving urself. it will be hard enough with the navy moving you for you. Please Let me know when he gets his orders! then i might have a timeline on when my man should get his.

bbarleywins,

Thank you for the information, and I am so sorry you have been waiting for such a long time. I didn't think they would reimburse us for the move, unless we moved after we had the orders in hand? Anyways, we are now down to how long should we wait ...Christmas, after? We don't know...but I will let you know when he gets them...I'll be shouting from the rooftops:)

Take care,

Tasha
