Hello everyone!  We just got to pick our next duty station and it will be Kings Bay, GA.  Does anyone know anything about the area?  Thinking of buying a house or living on base housing for awhile/or apt townhouse...any advice?  Thanks a ton everyone!

Be careful when buying a house, if he uses his VA to do so, and cannot find a VA buyer when selling the house, he loses that VA loan for when you want a house to live in elsewhere.  Being a long distance landlord sucks, you have 30 years of mortgage payments.  Even if the BAh covers it, what will you do when he is no longer active duty?  If you no longer want the home?  Rent while he's active duty, buy when he's a vet/retired.

Safeguard that VA loan whatever you do.

Thanks for the info on the Geogia group, I will be adding them..very cool.  Anti M:  I am very nervous about buying a house..just because it would be our first home buying experience.  Although, I think it would be smarter to do this, if we can find a nice home rather than pay rent we would rather do that...  What are the rules for the VA loan? Are the rates really high?  Just curious..need to talk to an advisor of  some sort:)
