Give him time to get adjusted.  There is a period of time that they can't communicate with you, but that will soon end.  He is very busy now learning what he needs to know to succeed and meeting tons of new friends.  Don't worry.  Your family will get a graduation packet that will explain everything soon.

Nancy *ivan sister* I know how you feel my daughter left on the 14 aswell from San Diego, We live on the high desert. I just got her box last friday, but no address to return a letter. The recruiter did tell me that it will be a while before I hear from her. I know right now is a culture, weather change. I hope you hear from him soon.

Good Luck.

my son left for basic on december 7th and my daughter who is 11 is really having a hard time adjusting.  keep your spirits high and know that the one you love is working very hard and will contact you as soon as possible.  they miss us as much as we miss them.  you should be able to get an address from the recruiter at the end of the week once a division has been assigned.  your brother and my son are very brave and wonderful people! hugs.

No news is good news!  My daughter called right away for about 15 seconds on her cell phone said "I'm here, I love you and will talk to you in two weeks" ..Then her cell phone was packed up with her clothes and shipped home.  That was on Nov 23rd.  Just got my first call since then on Dec 16th for about 15 minutes, she said her next scheduled time to call is on Jan 21st (her birthday) but I'm hoping I will hear from her before then!  She sounded wonderful and upbeat and she did most of the talking. :)

Take heart, my son arrived at Boot Camp on the 14th.  We didn't get a phone call either and were pretty dissapointed.  Got the box on the 18th, really sad by then.  Called the recruiter yesterday noon time, no address yet.  Got home from work yesterday and there was the form letter with our son's 5 line hand written note on it.  I have never been so relieved in my life.  I will be praying for you to hear soon, it shouldn't be long.  My whole women's bible study group started praying we'd hear soon on Sunday and Monday the letter came!

With a split family I was really hoping my son would call me when he got there but his dad got the call so I hope he takes turns. Before he got on the plane (as his dad was walking him onto) I heard him tell him to make sure he called his mom and wrote me. I thought that was special. Now I am sitting and waiting for him to do just that. But I called his recruiter on Monday and got his address and was able to mail all 3 letters I wrote. He asked me to write him once a day. OK.... I clip all kinds of interesting facts and I found a calendar from his favorite movie The Office and I clip them and send the day to him hope he gets a kick out of that too.
We all have to learn patience again I guess. Not easy, this emplty nest thing. Dealing with it wishing I didn't have to.

Our daughter left for boot camp on the 14th.  We got the quick call on her cell phone, she was upset and wanted to come home.  I hope she is doing better now.  We received her box of stuff and phone on Friday.  It took a week to get her information from the recruiter, they could not find her.  We were really worried, we didn't know if she was on ship 5 and on her way home or what was going on!  Finally after many calls to the recruiters office we found out she was on ship 3.  It was such a relief to know she staying.

You might want to clip out newspaper articles about the Niners, copy it, then on the reverse side write your message. That way he'll get both. Unfortunately, for you, your brother and all Niners' fans there is little to write about these days except who should be the coach next year and should they use their draft pick and get another quarterback. My husband and I are all in favor of Harbaugh/Luck combo. :P Sigh.

P.S. What's up with Crabtree anyway? He was good last year. Done nothin' this year.
