What does he say? How's he doing? I haven't gotten a letter,  but my son's girlfriend has, and he told her it kinda stinks!

bsb- unfortunately it was just the straight form letter and nothing personal about it. :{ But it does mean that he will hopefully write a real letter now, more importantly I will be able to send the stack of letter and cards that have been waiting. It just stinks that there is no postal service on Monday, but if for any reason, observing Veteran's Day is good reason. I will definitely keep you posted once I receive something from him. We didn't receive a call yesterday, I'm guessing because of the Captain's Cup evens going on. Thinking of you! :)

We were out of town & had our form letter waiting for us when we got back last night.  That was a GREAT homecoming present!  Are you going to PIR SC?  We are & wondering if the SRs can get a day pass for Christmas Day?\

JB, since you have indicated elsewhere that your SR is in Division 906, join the group, PIR 12/28/2012, to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.

Your SR most likely will be eligible for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program since he is in the TG with PIR the week after Christmas.  About 3 or 4 weeks prior to Christmas you will get letter from him with information about the program and a form that you must fill out and return if you plan to adopt him.  You will only be able to adopt him if you have completed the form and returned it on time.  If you are not able to adopt him, then one of the organizations in the area will.

You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here.

JB we are planning to attend PIR graduation, we plan on leaving the 26th and staying through the weekend. I'm hoping that he will have leave at least on Saturday. He has to stay an extra week for clearances. But then will be able to come home for 2 weeks before going to A school. At least that is what the thoughts are at this point. So happy your letter was waiting you! :).

Good Morning Ladies!

I did receive the "form letter" from my SR last Friday so I sat right next to the mailbox and addressed all 13!  The nerves aren't so flooded now and we are making arrangements for hotel accomodatioins.  However, I am lost about whether they can come home after graduation during Stand Down? or whether we could get a  couple of extra days to see him?  So confused at this point.  That all determines on whether I bring his belongings in our car or ship them....driving v. flying.     Advice?

Hi FeatheredNest, I wish I could answer your questions. I have written and asked my son what his thoughts are on the subject as I was curious as well. We have made our flight, hotel and car arrangements for Dec 26-30th. From what I read, it is possible to be with our SR's until 10 pm, but imagine that could change. Should I receive any input from him I will keep you posted. :)

Has anyone heard anything about family day on the Thursday before our sons graduate? Mine graduates Friday the 28th also...I'm also needing info on how long he will have before A school? I have not received a letter from my son yet and I'm anxiously waiting..

Comment by lemonelephant on November 15, 2012 at 12:49am

shan38, there is no"Family Day" the day before PIR; the first time you will see your Sailor is at PIR.  There are Meet and Greets the night before and I suggest that you attend Sarge's (PIR 12/28/2012 SARGE'S MEET AND GREET) because he has a lot of great info for you.  Ramada Inn has one and passes out an informationn sheet (PIR 12/28/2012 Ramada Meet and Greet) and Flanagan's sometimes has one, but it is not posted yet.  Those are great events in which to meet others with loved ones who will have PIR with your Sailor, some of whom you will have met in your PIR group.

What will your SR's rating (job) be?  There are groups on here for most of the "A" Schools and/or ratings and knowing that will help us to answer your question about how much time you will have, but know that since his PIR is during the holiday stand down at the "A" Schools, there may be some changes since info has not been posted about how that will affect that weekend.
