Well this is the final week my SR will be home.  I still don't have a definite date for his departure.  I always thought he was leaving on the 1st, but he kept telling me was the 31st.  I get a text from him at the recruiters office saying he is leaving on 1st.  I think I will call the recruiter just for verification, I am NOT going to miss his swearing in.  I have known since fall of last year that he wanted to join the Navy.  He waited until he turned 18 at the end of December before signing his papers.  His recruiter is wonderful - she wanted us to come & talk to her so that we knew what our son was going to do and make sure that we were fine with his decision.

He went & spent a week with his grandparents since he didn't know when he would see them again,  For the past 2 weeks he has been trying to do everything he can before he leaves.  We had a going away party for him over the weekend, one of his buddies is leaving for the Marines the following week.  There are 4 guys that have been friends since the 7th grade and they do everything together.  It will be different around our house without the boys coming in and out all of the time.  I will miss all of the noise.

I only breakdown (cry) every now & then, but he hasn't seen me cry yet.  I have met some other Navy Moms and have breakfast and dinner get together.  They have been really helpful and very supportive.  My SR is my baby so I guess this will be harder for me through the holidays.  This will be the first time in 29 years that I won't have any kids at home - that's kind of hard to sink in.

I have a feeling I will not be very productive this week at work with everything going on.

Your future Sailor (he's not an SR until he is sworn in at MEPS prior to heading to the RTC) has a ship date on his DEP ID card. He will be picked up by the recruiter or you will take him to the recruiter's office or hotel the day before that. The recruiter will tell him how that works. He will be sworn in at MEPS on the day that is printed on his ID card.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... (clickable link), to help you plan for him to ship.

Sorry about the classification - my fault.  Yes his recruiter is taking him to the hotel tomorrow night then to MEPS.  He got all of the final information yesterday.

I'm glad you got everything figured out.
