My daughter left on November 5th for boot camp.  She was so excited to go because she had never been on a plane.  We text back and forth up until she reported to boot camp. It made me feel better to hear the excitement and confidence  in her voice, I know she made the right choice!  I am still waiting on her package they send home and the information on graduation ceremonies. I worry about her as all moms do and it's the not knowing that driving me crazy.

Welcome to the club! The not knowing is the hardest part. We are just over 3 weeks in and it is still difficult but being on here and connecting with other Moms is so helpful. Make sure you join the Bootcamp group and when you get the letter, join your PIR group. The veteran Moms here are the very best. Good luck! :)

It's nice to know I'm not alone and that someone else can relate to what I'm going through. I got her Fedex box last night, so I'm guessing I will get the letter this week. Does that letter contain her address where I can write her?
Thanks for the support!

Yes, the letter will contain her address, her PIR date and also have the passcode to get the parking pass if you will be driving. I would expect that your daughter will probably be in the Dec 31 PIR group.

Welcome,

My son is on his last week of boot camp and graduates next Friday.  While it was a struggle letting him go and not being bale to call him as often as I wanted to the letters we got weekly helped get us through it.  He did get privileges to call several time and it was like Christmas hearing his voice.  Pray during this time it helps.

Do they need a phone card to make calls home?  I have heard different things and I'm not sure if I should send her one.  As far as her PIR date, I counted 9 Fridays and I came up with January 2nd, thinking it would not be until January 9th?  Oh Gosh, the thought of flying in to Chicago during the holiday season scares me,  I've never flown.

Comment by My2kidz on November 12, 2014 at 5:41pm

I have heard they are given one when they get there but others said to send one. I picked up a Penny Talk card at Walgreens and then set it up so it would automatically replenish. Then I made him try it before he left to make sure he knew how to use it.

As for the PIR date, the group my son is in were the last to ship out in October (the 21st/22nd) and their PIR is 12/12. I believe your daughter is in the first group after the break because they are not having PIR 12/19 or Christmas. RTC has said the next PIR is 12/31. You won't know for sure until you get the letter but you could also check with her recruiter. By now it should be in the system.

Not sure if you have heard, but rumor has it that PIR is December 31st.  My son left the same time as your daughter.

Good morning! I received my daughter's packet but haven't received the letter letting me know address or PIR date. My daughter also left Nov. 5. I too heard that PIR is for 12/31 but need to make sure before scheduling flight. Albeit I have reserved hotel for ten days just in case date changes. I'm so excited for my daughter. I'm finally able to go a day without crying.

I just spoke to my daughters recruiter and he said her PIR date is Dec 31, but he said that is a federal holiday and did not think they would have it that day. Has anyone received the "Letter" yet?

Comment by My2kidz on November 14, 2014 at 4:22pm

Dec 31 is not a federal holiday. Jan 1 is. All the information coming out of RTC that people like lemonelephant have been getting says 12/31 is the next PIR after 12/12 so it makes sense that you will be getting to celebrate the end of 2014 with your new Navy family! :)
