It has been about 2 months since my husband left on his IA.  It has got a little easier for me over time - less time spent crying now, but I still think of him more than anything else.

Everyone always says to try to keep busy, but with my job winding down and my friends scattering for the summer I have found it really hard.  Being unemployed is not how I like to spend my summers, so I'm a lot happier today since I was offered a job! :)

There have been days when I really haven't felt like getting out of bed, but luckily I have 2 dogs who demand to be fed, I just wish they would reset their internal clocks so we don't have to get up before 6am.....

I'm still trying to find a spouse support group in the real world - so far I've had no luck - I'd like to meet some new people in my area with something in common......

There should be an IA coordinator at your husband's command, and they should (stress SHOULD) be contacting you and making sure that things are going ok with you.  Also, Fleet and Family Support  usually has some sort of spouse group for the families / spouses of those Sailors that are on IA's.  This can be a great way to meet other spouses who are going through the same thing, maybe get together with them for a pizza, etc...

Here's another great link to check out:

http://www.cnic.navy.mil/CNIC_HQ_Site/WhatWeDo/FleetandFamilyReadin...

another one is:

www.ia.navy.mil  On the left hand side, there's a spot that says "family".  They have some really good stuff in there.

One other thing, if you haven't yet, maybe look into taking a Compass Class.  It's free, has a lot of great info and is a good way to meet other spouses and find out about things to do in your area :-)

Good luck!

sailorwifenmom - thanks for the links, but I live in dead spot in the country, there's nothing in this area except for Blue Star Mother's who I've held off contacting because I was looking for spouse stuff rather than mom stuff but I'll be calling them this week!

My nearest Compass class is San Diego - when I told them I couldn't attend the class they weren't interested in talking to me (someone on the end of a phone to talk to occasionally could be useful), but I can't get to San Diego - it's over 8 hours drive.

It's just so frustrating - everyone says what great support there is, but there isn't....  And our CIAC isn't much good - for the first two months he just sent me a form letter addressed "Dear IA Warriors", so then we complained and for the next two months I got a letter addressed to my husband and me, asking how the weather is where my husband is.  I haven't heard from him this month, it's only 2 weeks since I should have had something........ oh well. :)
