My son just left today for BC.  They picked him up at 9:30 am.  He's 18 yrs old and I am very sad.  I don't know how to deal with the sadness.  I tried to be brave in front of him because I didn't want to make him feel sad.  He was suppose to go to Cal State Pomona when he graduated high school, but he told me 2 weeks before his orientation that he decided to join the Navy.  This was in August.  They took him to San Diego where they tested him and he got a score of 96.  He picked his job and his A school and signed up on the spot.   I am going to miss him terribly.  I found a letter under my pillow that said not to open until he gets to bootcamp.  I love him and I am going to miss him. :(

Day two and I'm still a wreck.  I'm here at work, but can't concentrate.  I haven't heard from my son today and he is still in San Diego processing.  I got a text around 6:00 pm last night letting me know he flys out to BC tomorrow and that's all he said.  Does anyone know what they are doing with him in San Diego?  I can't believe he doesn't have at least a fews seconds update me.

Thanks JunieB.   I was really sad last night because I thought he would have called after dinner, but he didn't.  I don't want to bother him, but I really would like to get some update while he still has his phone.

Congratulations!  I couldn't help but tear up as I read your post.  I was there only 5 weeks ago.  Trying to be strong for our son, going through the motions of saying goodbye, and blogging with N4M's in hopes of keeping my sanity. An emotional roller coaster to say the least, but stay strong for your recruit and family.  Keep your phone on at all times, and get your pens ready to write!  All the best to you and your son!

ok.  Just got off the phone with Josh.  He has landed in Chicago. Yeah..Long day at work for dad and I..just kept thinking about him..how I should have given this advise or reminded him one more time about this that or the next thing.  Cant wait to hug him in 8 weeks...and see the young man he has become!

Ok.  My son leaves today at 9:40 am.  Texted me last night to let me know he will call me when he gets to the airport and when he gets there.  I haven't spoken to him live since Tuesday and it's killing me.  I've been also thinking what may I have forgotten to tell him.  I am so very proud of him to take this path.  I feel it's so brave of him to want to join the Navy.  Last night was hard, explaining, again, to his 5 year old sister why he's not home.  She wanted to know why he can't go to school with her instead of so far away.  One day at a time everyone tells me.

Yay!!!!  My son called me from the airport to let me know he is on his way to Chicago!!!!  OMG!  I haven't spoken to him since Tuesday and it feels like a month has gone by.  I was brave when I was talking to him and didn't let him know how much I missed him. After we hung up, I ran to the restroom and cried like a baby.  I know you moms know what I'm feeling.  It hurts so much to have your kids grow up and become independent.  I was the one nuturing him all these years.   I can't believe he's not going to need me anymore :(  I did hang up feeling better that he was feeling so great.  I'm worried about him when he gets to boot camp.  I pray he will adjust.

Yay!! Got a text from my son and he just landed in Chicago!!  Woohoo!!  I feel a little better now.  He said it's 13 degrees out there.  He's in for a shock :).  I hope to hear from him live one more time.

Ok, got the call tonight.  Very short and sweet :(  "Hi mom, I'm here at boot camp.  I won't be able to call again for 3 weeks.  Can you send me a calling card?  I'm doing good.  I love you bye".  And that was it.  I had to pull the car over because I couldn't stop crying once I hung up the phone.  I didn't let him hear me sad.  I was so positive.  But, it was killing me inside.

Ok, got a hold of the recruiter and got my son's address!!  Whoo hoo!!  He's on ship 11 division 128.   I know it has to get easier.  I still have not opened the letter he left under my pillon on Tues. 2-8.  He said to open it when he got to boot camp which was on Thurs. 2-9,but I can't do it yet.  I'm so anxious to know everything he's doing in boot camp.  Is there a site I can go to that has when they get up, when they go to bed, what they are doing on a daily basis?  What they are eating?  I feel so lost. :(

Thanks JunieB!!  I will do that tonight. I better get home myself and feed my Valentine's.  My little 5 yr old made sure to let me know that she was my Valentine today :)  Pretty cute.  And all she wants is mac and cheese :).  Have a great evening!
