My son just left today for BC. They picked him up at 9:30 am. He's 18 yrs old and I am very sad. I don't know how to deal with the sadness. I tried to be brave in front of him because I didn't want to make him feel sad. He was suppose to go to Cal State Pomona when he graduated high school, but he told me 2 weeks before his orientation that he decided to join the Navy. This was in August. They took him to San Diego where they tested him and he got a score of 96. He picked his job and his A school and signed up on the spot. I am going to miss him terribly. I found a letter under my pillow that said not to open until he gets to bootcamp. I love him and I am going to miss him. :(
Thanks JunieB. I was really sad last night because I thought he would have called after dinner, but he didn't. I don't want to bother him, but I really would like to get some update while he still has his phone.
Ok. My son leaves today at 9:40 am. Texted me last night to let me know he will call me when he gets to the airport and when he gets there. I haven't spoken to him live since Tuesday and it's killing me. I've been also thinking what may I have forgotten to tell him. I am so very proud of him to take this path. I feel it's so brave of him to want to join the Navy. Last night was hard, explaining, again, to his 5 year old sister why he's not home. She wanted to know why he can't go to school with her instead of so far away. One day at a time everyone tells me.
Yay!!!! My son called me from the airport to let me know he is on his way to Chicago!!!! OMG! I haven't spoken to him since Tuesday and it feels like a month has gone by. I was brave when I was talking to him and didn't let him know how much I missed him. After we hung up, I ran to the restroom and cried like a baby. I know you moms know what I'm feeling. It hurts so much to have your kids grow up and become independent. I was the one nuturing him all these years. I can't believe he's not going to need me anymore :( I did hang up feeling better that he was feeling so great. I'm worried about him when he gets to boot camp. I pray he will adjust.
Thanks JunieB!! I will do that tonight. I better get home myself and feed my Valentine's. My little 5 yr old made sure to let me know that she was my Valentine today :) Pretty cute. And all she wants is mac and cheese :). Have a great evening!
