Nearing the end of boot camp and the beginning of life as a Navy mom

Hard to believe that almost 8 weeks ago I joined this site a rather sad mama missing my son terribly and today I wait in anticipation for the "I'm a sailor" call.

First and foremost, thank you to all the 'seasoned' moms that post to this site regulary and offered me much guidance along the way.  I remember my first fews days with my 'woe is me' mindset and today I couldn't be farther from that place.  I have come to understand and admire the Navy community and count myself both fortunate and proud to have a son who has chosen to serve this great country.

While this BC journey has certainly been an experience for my husband and me, we are so excited to be able to finally sit with our son and hear all about the journey through his eyes.  PIR is 5 days away and we can't wait to see Matt.

For all of you that are just beginning your journey, hang on!  The first few weeks are a roller coaster of emotions but with the help of fellow Navy moms, you will get through it.  And, one day you'll awake and it will seem easier.

Wishing each of you the very best that life can offer and to those of you Navy Mom 'gurus' thank you again for your support.

PIR is Friday and I'll be sure to post pictures as soon after as I can!

Friday will be an exciting time.  Enjoy that time with your Sailor.  You can also join one of the groups for your Sailor's A School and/or rating.  What is his rating?

Enjoy PIR and treasure every moment you have with your son. I second the post of take plenty of tissues!! When the huge garage door begins to open your heart will skip a few beats...it is a magical moment. Take lots of pictures and video if possible.

Denise; you will ALWAYS be a Navy (Seabee) mom! With your advice last year I introduced my son as a Seabee rather than a Sailor after PIR. He was shocked and asked me why (and how) I did that. I told him that I had learned from another Seabee mom (YOU!!) that Seabee's don't like to be called Sailors. He just grinned from ear to ear. It is moments like that that make the advice of ALL mom's on this site so valuable. You should write a book with Bunker, Anti and Lemonelephant. I can picture the book signing "parties" now.
