My son is on his way to GL today. Thanks for this website I know what to expect. It's hard to stop the bawling, but he's doing something that he wants to. I wish him and everybody else all the best. I know his plane is now in Chicago and I am waiting for a call. It's hard but I know it will get better

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September, to connect with others with loved ones who left today and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and PIR Reference Information. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

(Group names within this comment are clickable links. To join a group, click on the group name and after the group page opens, click on "+ Join..." in the upper right.)

Hi Newbie, hang in there.  It is hard at first but when you start getting calls and letters after the third week it will gradually get better.

Take care

My Son is leaving today. It's nice to know that this site is here to help us when we are wondering what is going on. I have been having all kinds of mixed emotions with it all. I am very proud of him but sad at the same time. I'm very happy of this choice he has made in his life and hope he excels. I hope your Son excels also!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice, Michael's Mom I wish all the best for your son too. I received my scripted call last night. I was good to hear his voice.
I am at work today and I cannot concentrate

Hi Newbie, My name is Julie and My daughter Kayla left for GL on August 20, 2013.. I did nothing but cry for a whole week but I had to keep reminding myself that she is doing a good thing and that I needed to be strong for her and have faith in god that he will watch over our kids. But I am not going to lie it was hard cuz I miss her so much. But once i received her box and form letter it started to get easier cuz now i can make plans for the trip to Chicago. I started writing letters before i got her address and that help me alot. Newbie hang in there i promise it does get better. Julie

Hi Newbie, my son left for GL on Aug. 19th and I will admit the first few weeks are hard, especially the first week.  I am almost 3 weeks in already and all I have received from him is his box and form letter.  Oh a a brief phone call looking for information....nothing else.  I have found a lot of support on this site and on other facebook pages too, we are all feeling the same way we are here for you and it will get easier.
