My son is off to BC Nov 16th. He will be missing some special occations. I am looking for some great (inexpensive) party ideas. I was thinking about incorporating Thanksgiving, Christimas and his 18th Birthday so that he will not feel he has missed any of these important dates. I am gathering all his family and closest friends to celebrate. Any ideas such as invites, decorations music, games, etc. that are related to any of the holidays and to the navy would be greatly appreciated......I am sad, nervous and excited all at the same time and want to make this the best party ever- without forgeting anything...

I don't know if the turkeys are in the stores that early, but you could cook a turkey dinner if he won't be home for Thanksgiving, and have birthday cake for dessert. An anchor would be a nice decoration on the cake. I think he might be home for Christmas from boot camp, because I heard OCS sends them home for Christmas.Take a group photo and save it for him, and have each person write a short note to him that you mail to him when he is at boot camp, so he remembers the party and the well wishes.

what beautiful comments. Thank you all for sharing. Navyblue, I will definately make a turkey dinner and birthday cake for dessert.

Littleman, that's a good idea, I'm sure you had lots of fun.

Judy, how special. I notice at times he tries to do stuff that never crossed his mind before. I'm cherishing every moment.

God Bless all your sailors!

Hi Cat, I didn't respond before now b/c I had to think about it first, the ol'pea brain wasn't working! LOL My advice is to make sure he has time to visit everyone he will miss before he leaves. My son was a DEPPer but still seemed to run out of time for that and was scramblign at the last minute tring to see everyone. I wouldn't try to do too much, just make it relaxed and give them lots of time to visit. Does he have a hobby? You could use that as a theme along with the Navy. My son loves history, so I would do "old Navy" stuff. Make his favorite food too, he won't appreciate it until about 3 weeks into BC. LOL That's all I can think of right now. Oh ya, take lots of pics for later.
