My Son has PIR coming up on September 15th, when will be a good time to stop sending him letters? I've read that the last two weeks of BC can be very busy. I don't want to write more letters than he will be able to receive or have time to read. Any advice will help. Thanks.
RJNavyMom - First of all, gauge how long it will take your letters to get to RTC, by how long it takes you to receive a letter, then add a couple of days. I would not send anything that is not likely to get delivered to them. I have no idea if my recruit received my last letter or not.
I also had no idea when battle station would be, I just know my recruit had asked for prayers and good luck. Prior to my receiving that letter, I had been listening to some of my recruits favorite music - some of mine as well, (Petra Praise) and decided to print out the lyrics and mail them. Just something different and something for my recruit to latch on to. I honestly haven't had a chance to ask if that letter was received or if it helped, but I believe it did. In my final letter, I think I also said, I would not be sending any more letters because I wanted to make sure they were all received, but extended lots of love, encouragement, and prior to that had shared our travel plans. You might even want to tell your recruit what you will be wearing at PIR so they can scan the bleachers for you. I told my recruit during our "I'm a sailor" call and there was a slight confusion. But they can still glance up and hopefully spot you in the stands.
I was busy getting ready for another daughter's wedding the weekend before our PIR, so I really didn't have a lot of time to write and I also had just found this site, so I really don't think I wrote too much towards the end. If you have had people sending them letters, etc. they have a stack. But if you do plan for one of your letters to be the last one, I would definitely let them know and explain why.
Thank you so much for the advice Chipmunk, it is very helpful. It takes about three days for me to receive the letters that he writes to me on Sundays, so I think I will mail my last letter to him on Monday September 4th. I want to encourage him for as long as I can but I will let him know that I'm praying for him daily even when the letters stop coming. Thanks again! I have to start preparing for the trip to GL and that will keep me busy up until it's time to fly out.
Safe travels RJNavyMom - I hope you can attend Sarge's Meet n Greet on Thursday. If you do attend, be sure to get there as early as possible for the most opportunity to meet other parents in your son's division and with the same or similar "A" school. If you are tired, don't stick around for the raffle afterwards, but donate instead in the drop box at the food table.
Prayers and blessings for you and your son.
My son has PRI in Sept 15th and when I asked him last week during our call. He said 5 days before, so Sept 10th. I write him a letter and send him a card everyday, seems silly but I think he just wants to get a letter, so I will do so until then.
Best of luck!
Thank you Ladies. I do want t attend the Meet and Greet, I want to donate a basket as well. Best of luck to your Son Billington01! I'm so excited and Proud for all of the Recruits!
