My goddaughter is reporting to boot on August 14, 2013.  I know that she can't where any jewelry in boot, but after boot in A school can she wear birthstone stud earrings while in Navy A school?  Do the rules on dress relax at all from A school on?  I should add that she tested very well and is going to Nuke A school in South Carolina (I believe) after boot.  Lastly what be helpful for her to learn entering into boot so as to make her boot experience less traumatic?  TY in advance for the info.  Mark.

No, she cannot wear such earrings while in uniform.  The only ones allowed are brushed silver spheres, of a certain size. A watch, one ring per hand, and a bracelet.  Barrettes must match her hair color (gold for blondes and so on).  She may wear a religious medal under her uniform shirt (even in boot camp).  Her school or command can impose additional rules about jewelry for safety or while training for safety.

She can wear the earrings when she can wear her civilian clothes, never in uniform.

To get through boot camp: listen, then listen some more. Don't question how things are done, just do them.  Ears open, mouth shut, and keep her sense of humor handy because things are going to get strange.

Here is an example of what she can wear in uniform.  I'd say buy them at the Navy exchange if possible.

She should learn the info in DEP START Guide and work on the PFA requirements.  http://www.navy-prt.com/femalestandard/ gives the PFA standards for females. If she is in shape before leaving it will lessen the chances of injury, which could cause a set back.   If she knows the info in the DEP Guide and passes the PQS test with at least an 80% and passes her first PFA, then she will be advanced one rate and will be paid for that while in BC, so that is a good thing to work on because it can help her financially as well as with BC.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer her to some good links on there, such as http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2205 to help with the 11 General Orders.
