My son leaves for BC a week from today & I still can't believe it.  It is so surreal.  While I am extremely excited for him (he's overly excited) I am so nervous at the same time.  I hope that this experience lives up to his expectations.  He's not a bit nervous or scared about the unknown, quite confident actually.  I just hate this no contact for 8 weeks, after all we are a close family & talk many times a day.  I keep telling him the 12th order is to honor your mother & make sure you write to her!  LOL, so let's see???  The days are wizzing by & I've read what the majority of absolutely everything on this website.  I'm ready to book my flight for graduation, just not sure which week it will be.  I'm not sure I'm going to be able to contain myself until I get the letter with the date in the mail???  Well, let's see what the next week brings & I hope I don't drive his recruiter too crazy until I here from my son!

Kim, I'm right there with you. My son has finally admitted that the nerves are setting in. I just keep telling myself that this is the very best decision my son has ever made for himself. I've told my son the 12th order is to keep his mouth shut!! Hopefully they will be graduating together and we can meet in person. I'm really looking forward to that day!

Kim I'm right there with you.  My son leaves for Great Lakes on the 8th.  He's acting all calm about the entire thing while inside I'm all tore up.  This website is very comforting though that we can get on here and talk to ones going through the same thing we are.

It's an amazing, emotional experience for your son and yourself.  You'll be just fine....I promise.  My son is graduating tomorrow.  I never thought I could ever see him off, let alone not have any communication for 8 weeks.  Love him up until he leaves.  You'll get the "box" soon after, then his form letter with his graduation date and address.  Start to write him every chance you can...he'll need your letters of strength.  Then he'll call end of week 3, and you'll feel so much better hearing he's just fine.  Soon after that, the "Sailor" call, then Graduation!  If you keep busy, it'll go by quickly.  Keep us posted on his journey and stay close to N4M...my lifeline so many times!  All the best to your son!

I felt the same way.  So scared to let my baby boy go. He and I are very close and I thought my heart would never regain it's normal rhythm the night I hugged him and had to kiss him and tell him good bye.  We had a three hour drive to make after that.  My heart did start beating normal and until I started writing this I haven't cried too much the last two days.  LOL.  I got his "box" today and I got through that just fine.  This website will help us all through this journey.  We want our birds to spread their wings and fly...we just wish we could hang on while they do it!!!!

I am confident that with the help of the Lord and all the women on this site we will all grow in so many ways on this journey.  I am going to look forward to it.  I can't wait to get an address and a PIR date.  One more mile stone to look forward to.

Thank you everyone...hang in there everybody.

Thoughts and Prayers to all,

Val
