Thanks for the comment and video suggestion! It helped a lot and it put my 10 yr old at ease!  He is taking this the hardest but he is very proud of his big brother!  He is already wanting to follow in his footsteps....He's already talking about when he joins the Navy!

I wrote my son every single day - (I convinced myself he read every letter - whether he did or not I'll never know) it was good therapy for me! Write write write - he did tell me he loved getting so much mail. Time seems to drag the first couple weeks but before you know it you will be down to the last week or so and think - "wow we made it!" I also posted on his facebook page about a week before he graduated and asked his friends to leave comments for him to read when he got access to a computer - it was great and he was pleasantly surprised! Good Luck -

It's a very anxious day but hang in there. The days are hard at first and when the box comes homes it kind of stings but it's all good.  You will be fine.  As J25smom wrote, get some stationary and write to your son.  He will appreciate your words of encouragement and they do read their mail.  It's the only thing they can attach themselves to while they are in bootcamp.  Bootcamp does fly by but carry on your regular routine otherwise you will make yourself crazy.

I feel for you!  Our son left two weeks ago and it feels like forever.  I didn't want to let go either, but I realized that the whole point of raising them is for them to go.  To live an honest, productive life.  Boy will they ever!  All the best to your son.  He's about to begin an amazing journey!

Thanks to everyone for the advice and support! My son left 2 hrs ago...it was very hard for both myself and my son. He broke down and began to cry when he hugged me....

I am not handling this very well! My sons recruiters failed to inform us that we could have attended his official swearing in ceremony before his flight!  It was 5 minutes ago!  And of course, we can't even see him off at the airport!

I wrote my first letter to my son yesterday.  Normally I would have had several written, but the new baby takes up all of my time!  My husband and I are handling things much better, and my 10 yr old is doing great!  He's been there since early weds. evening, so naturally I am wondering what he is doing and how he is doing.  I still haven't received his "box" yet and I have no idea when this "form" letter is coming. I am becoming very impatient. I don't want him to think that we have forgotten about him!

I received my son's form letter early today!  I was so excited to see his handwriting!  I loved his little note he left for his little brothers!

It's been two weeks since my son left....I miss him sooo much but his younger brother misses him even more. He was extremely distraught last night and he lost a lot of sleep so we kept him home today from school.  The last time he missed school was the day that my son left for the navy and the day after.  He's feeling better now.
