Hi Emptynest,

Enjoy every moment you have with your son, because when he leaves you will feel torn.  Thank God for the women on this web site, "lemonelephant" and "dinnep" are very supportive.  They have a great deal of knowledge about boot camp, and give great advice.  I won't lie to you, it was extremely difficult for my husband and I.  We both cried, had no idea it was going to be as difficult as it was, a part of us was missing, our son.  As each day went by, I thought of my son often.  From day one until now I have written my son a letter, even when I didn't have an address, this was therapy for me.  When I did finally receive the address, I sent 3 or 4 at a time.  When our son finally contacted us after 19 days, it was the most greatest gift God gave us.

Hang in there and cherish every moment.  Stay strong, give many hugs, and smiles.

Hang in there Casvid, I won't say it's easy, because it's not, but it will get better.  When you finally get that phone call & you hear his voice it will be like angels singing.  As a mother you know the different cries that your baby makes.  Well hearing their voice is the same thing.  You finally get that comfort because you hear in his/her voice that they are okay.  Then you get the hand written letter & every day seems to get better!

We are going through the same thing...our daughter (who's 20) checked in at bootcamp this week, she spent Monday night (15th) overnight in a hotel in San Jose, then meps on Tuesday morning, then off to the airport and got the "last call" at 1:00 am on Weds. (17th) where she had just checked in for processing.  We were very prepared because she had a long DEP time as she finished a whole semester of college, but I think it's the "not knowing how she's handling things" that is hard.  Even just a one liner to home saying "I'm kicking butt" or "this is a tough week but I'll be okay"....it's the not knowing in the information age where we can all Skype, email or text our kids and know their status.  I've cried about the most stupid things and of course the Navy is running all kinds of commercials right now which I never noticed before !  So here we sit, waiting for the first letter that hasn't arrived yet.  I've already written one so I have current events written down from the family and media....anything to let her mind be somewhere "easy" for a minute.

that's the other thing....waiting for our "kid in a box".  I'll probably ball when I get it, even though normally I'm never like that !
