My son left Aug 7th from Nashville going to Great Lakes.  He was so excited.  I am so proud of him but killing me inside not being able to talk to him every night like I did when he was away at college.  He called me at mid night and said he got there and he was ok.  He sounded so tired.

Is there anyone else out there who's son left Aug 7th?  It is going to be 8 long weeks.

My son left on August 6th from Las Vegas and he was excited too. I feel exactly the way you do. He sent me a text once he arrived at O'Hare and about an hour later I got the call saying he was there and he'll call me again in about 3 weeks. I have started writing letters to him just to keep myself busy and once I get his address I'll be able to send a bunch of them at one time. Yes, its gonna be a long 8 weeks.

My son also left on the 7th. I'm just trying my best not to "think" and keep busy. It's very hard not having him around. Just praying he stays strong and can hang in there through those first few weeks.

My son left Aug 7th from Portland Maine, we got the phone call (at midnight)stating he was there and would call again in 3 wks . Even though this has been a goal of his for a long time, I"m still having a tough time letting go.I started journaling months ago and will enjoy sharing bits and pieces from my journal in letters to him. He is a wonderful son and I know he will do great things for the Navy. I am looking forward to graduation at Great Lakes , haven't recieved any of that info yet. Looking forward to his first piece of mail. It will be a long 8 weeks. Keep writing ladies and we will be strong together.

Amy, My husband was in the Navy and we were stationed in Brunswick Me for 3 years. I think that is why my son decided to join the Navy but he is wanting to be a Seal. I too received the phone call at mn stating that he was ok and got there safe. I was so excited to hear from him I didn't hear when he was calling back. I haven't received the box yet. That will kill me seeing his cloths and cell phone sent back. This is really hard to cope with. With my son in college I could still call him every night. BC no contact for weeks is hard to get use to.

Our son left also on the 7th, and we received our "kid in a box" today

Yes I got my sons box today too. It was hard to open up. We had looked on the web site and said that he would have a watch but when I opened his box his cell phone, watch and cloths were in there. I did call his recuiter and got his address so the first letter is going out tomorrow

The recuiter said that the graduation will either be the first Friday in Oct, or the 2nd depending on how they devide the weeks up.
