Son sent to Ship 5 for failed run

Good evening friends!

My son left for GL BC on May 31st and I thought all was well. Got the initial "Hey I made it okay will call you in 3 weeks". Then a couple of days later a package arrived with his personal belongings ie clothes, cell phone... Well, then yesterday (Sat 6/16) I got the dreaded phone call, mom, " I failed the run by 30 sec and they are sending me home". I felt such a deep sickness in my gut b/c he sounded so disappointed. If just didn't care so much then I am sure I wouldn't either. He was in DEP for 5 months and swam and ran at least twice a week. I knew he wasn't a strong runner but we both thought his time was good enough. Obviously it wasn't. I guess I am venting but I do have a few questions to any or all who might know the answers. He stated he will be home in 2 weeks and was told he will be able to reenlist in 6 months. How true is that? Will he be home within that time frame and will he be able to rejoin in 6 months without any hassles? Seems hard to believe and maybe he is told that to just push him out quickly knowing he will have a fat chance getting back in. Also, why would the Navy spend 2 weeks sending him home and not 2 weeks making him run around the track. I am pretty sure he could have cut off 30 seconds if given a bit more of training. Also, does anyone know if the phone calls are free for him or does he need a phone card? And one last question, does He get paid till he boards the plane or does it stop when he got sent to Ship 5.  Your comments and encouraging words are deeply appreciated. God Bless!!

@ Navy♡ My son is still at ship 5 but will be coming home next week. He said they are overcrowded so that is probably why he has been there so long. I got worried too, so I contacted legal and they passed on my concerns to the civilian liaison. One day later my son called from legal to say he is scheduled to leave the following week. He is only 18 and hasn't learned how to deal with such matters yet. The same might be true of yours. But if he is at ship 5 or not they do get periodic phone calls. Might need to contact GL if its been that long. Big hugs to your family!! The toughest part is not knowing.

Thank you for message.
And I’m so sorry to hear that.
One of us finally found our SR in ship5. I still can’t believe it.
A few days ago. His mother finally told us that she got the form letter already. So I think he got separated after boot camp started not initial run.
We can’t know and how long he is in ship5. His mother still saying that he is fine never shared us about separation....she was saying he even hasn’t written to her.
We are his friends and so hard to get informations about his statues.
I sill having a hope that we got just wrong ship number and he is still doing well.
Sorry for you son ...still 18 years old...must be hard ..
We are sending him letters with ship5 address. If these returned to us. That’s fine never thought wasting money.
I just want to cheer him up.
Do you often write him ?
