Still waiting for our son's address, it's funny how a week can drag by. We were so happy and surprised to receive an unexpected phone call from him on Sunday the 28th. He has joined the band and is first chair saxophone. He said he was in Division 900 and would Graduate Dec. 21st! Yay, what a wonderful Christmas Present! I have a stack of letters waiting to be sent and tons of cards from all his friends and family. I wonder what he actually looks like with a bald head and at times the mere thought of it is the one thing that makes me chuckle. Athough, I do hope they give them some sort of hat to wear. WIth Sandy and the cold"er" front moving in on them, Great Lakes is not for my thin blood nature. Wishing them all well. Stay strong, we are proud of you! <3
He is in a 900 division, but not Division 900. He is on Ship 2, but I am not sure what the 900 division(s) is/are for that TG. It looks like they skipped a week or two in December, so there may be more than one 900 division in that TG.
There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though.
The PIR ceremony is conducted, with help, from the graduating 900 Div and two Jr. Divisions in their 7th and 6th week of training. Each incoming 900 div is assigned one of the responsibilities listed above on a constantly rotating basis. Watch the RTC’s fB page beginning 2 weeks before your SR’s PIR and you may catch a glimpse of your SR. If the RTC did skip 1 or 2 weeks, he could perform more than 2 weeks prior to his PIR or only for his PIR. I see you have join the group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation. Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions, The Requirements for the Navy RTC 900 Division.

Thank you for the information lemonelephant, since my son plays saxophone, I guess that would make him in the Triple Threat team. Still awaiting his letter.
I'm thinking his TG may have three 900 divisions--904 (Staff), 905 (Sticks), and 906 (Triple Threat), but I haven't seen anything for sure. Do let me know his division number when you get it so I can keep my list up-to-date. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
Join the group, PIR 12/21/2012 (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.
You are very welcome.
