The comments where all really helpfull, yet I do believe she should have gotten at least 3 of my letters since they were send Priority. So slow is fine, but lazy is not. Especially which what was said in the last letter. She needs to know that I am writting. Sending a FedEx on Monday. At least then I know it is there since they have to sign for it. Then we shall see how long it will take, from Desk to Her.

Thanks again....

Flo, I don't think the Navy is being lazy. There is a reason they don't get their mail for a while. I wouldn't draw attention to her by sending her mail fed-ex. you could get her in trouble.

Flo, she may have just now received some of your letters if she got there June 14th. They hold them for the first 2 weeks, at least. It is good that she was allowed to write to you already...that is actually a little early. Encourage her....this is not easy for any of them, they get very homesick, and I'm sure that she is missing you alot. I would suggest that you send nothing but supportive comments to help her to become a sailor. You will be very proud of her at PIR! Also, send regular mail, not priority, because the letters get there in about 3-4 days anyway. Mine did, and I live very far away! No need to draw attention to her...the RDC's can be hard on them for things like that.

I think it is great we get to even send letters to them and they can send to us.

Don't waste your money on priority or FedEx - your daughter is in boot camp and she won't get it any sooner because you spent more money on mailing it.

no contact for long periods of time in navy isnt anything new. boot camp is learning to wait and as us parents we have to learn that sometimes there is long lonely days weeks and months. deployments are even harder. you must understand your recruit is now learning that and you must learn too. letters are the good RCD,s are not there to keep letters from your recruit, yes there is a long wait for the letters to get to them. the navy base is huge and there is 1000,s of pieces of mail each day. I dont think fedx trucks go on base. I didnt hear from my two sailors for at lease three weeks.......

below is that the RTC CMC WROTE ON HIS COMMENTS PAGE.

At 8:46am on February 20, 2010, RTC Command Master Chief said… All,
Not sure where this info is coming from. Sounds like another case of mis-communication.
The only people we prohibit letters from is other recruits (they still try, though).
We have no way of knowing who the incoming mail is from, other than obvious indications on the outside of the envelope. The integrity of the US Postal system is not violated in that we do not open, screen or otherwise molest incoming mail. We do ensure any enclosures (usually photos) are appropriate by observing the recruits as they open the envelope.
The recruits are not disciplined for mail receipt.
I hope this information is helpful.

Fed-Ex is a huge waste of time. Anyting sent Fed-Ex goes to the mailroom, just as any other piece of mail does. And recruits are not given their mail until the end of the day, after it has been through a very long processing routine, which has already been explained.

She won't get in trouble per se, but she will get to be known as the recruit who has a mommy who wants what she wants right this minute. What you believe, and what the reality of Navy life is, are two very different things. She is in good hands, things are progressing as they do for most recruits. Your letters will get to her on the Navy's schedule, not yours. What will you do when she's deployed and the mail bag gets dropped overboard?

And as prior service Navy, I find "lazy" to be an insult to my shipmates who are currently serving. Thanks for the support.
