THANKSGIVING OUT OF BASE - Great Lakes

Hello, I am new here and am not sure how to navigate this website :-)  My son is in Basic Training for almost three weeks now.  Today he called and told us we can visit him for thanksgiving!  Hooray! I did not even know they were allowed to go out.  I just wanted to hear what other moms' experience has been with seeing their child for thanksgiving and what are good places to lodge and eat :-D   Thank you all so much!

Those who are eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt a Sailor program are in the 12/04/2015 and 12/11/2015 TG's. If your recruit is in one of those TG's, then your recruit will have sent you a form to fax back in order to adopt him. If he is not in one of those TG's, then he is not eligible for the Adopt a Sailor program and will stay at the RTC for Thanksgiving.

Check your My Page.

This site is difficult to use on mobile, it is easier if you can use a tablet or laptop.  If I do use it on my phone, I go to "desktop view".   Kills my eyes, but  I can see the tabs at top.

For recruits that graduate the day before Thanksgiving...will they get leave for Thanksgiving..or the weekend?

Comment by lemonelephant on November 2, 2015 at 4:20pm

CJC, the new Sailors in the Thanksgiving TG who are flying out will most likely fly out the Friday after Thanksgiving. They will have daytime Liberty on the day of PIR and on Thanksgiving Day. Those staying in GL will move over to the TSC side and will have daytime Liberty each day of the long weekend and return each night. There is no Leave until after "A" School--well, maybe for part of the holiday standdown around Christmas, but that will depend on the command. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
