I knew this would happen although, I had a very tiny inkling of what my son is going to be. I felt it during his very first birthday, then again on the 3rd and 4th birthday! It was unexplainable but I as a mom felt it! I was left wondering and just kept it to myself. Never talked about it to anyone til the day I witnessed that something was coming out of him.

At the time my husband and I took him for holiday in Saudi Arabia in 2004, I  thought that was the start of it. In 2007, his dad took him to the US while I was here in the UK. I did not feel bad cos I knew that it was another stepping stone to what he is destined to be.

Came 2011, he informed me that he was going to take a test for the Navy. It sounded like a sweet surprise for me. Initially, it did not work out so well for him and was deciding to join the Army. I was not so convinced about the idea. So, he went to learn more of English and Maths in San Diego . Afterwhich, he felt he needed more schooling so he went back to California and continued learning. I knew he would pursue his dream. We were actually planning for him to visit the UK  at that time when he changed his mind. Then the day for him to take the test came and  finally passed! Alas! What a relief! Everyone who knew was so happy for him.

Then came the sad/happy day when he had to say that he was 'leaving' which was on July 23, 2012. I felt sad thinking that I would not be able to chat with him everyday like we used to. He said it was only for two months which for me sounded like years. Then on July 24, there were no more answers to my instant messages and buzzing. Everything finally sinked in me, he's gone!

Days had passed and I was terribly missing him. I had no idea how to contact him since he sent his Form Letter to his dad. I was so glad  and relieved when I got his address from his step sister. From then on, I started writing almost everyday on a postcard while we were on holiday!  It felt quite good that I can still reach him even though I have not received any responce for two weeks.

We received his very first letter on  August 18, 2012, the next day after we came back from holiday. Jolene, hubby and I were ecstatic!  Then came his very first call on August 20th. Hearing his voice made me feel like I was in heaven!

When I read the word 'GRADUATION' on his first letter, I thought 'I am his mom, I should be there'! Though we lived far away from each other most of our lives, I made sure that I was present in the special events in his life. I was there on his Elementary and Secondary graduation. If this will be his last 'graduation', the more that I had to make my self present. That will the most specal gift I could give to my son...my presence!

I did what I had to do. I prayed hard and processed all the necessary papers and attended an interview at the American Embassy in London on August 29, 2012. And I DID IT! I was granted a visa to see my son on his graduation!!! There is nothing more precious than to be with my son on his graduation day at boot camp!

I am now awaiting for Sept 21 filled with excitement and eagerness!!! After seven, almost eight, long years, God has given us both the patience to wait and stay strong til that day comes!

Thank you Lord for giving me a son who is very responsible and loving! Thank you for guiding him and keeping him safe!  Please continue to guide him in his new journey and help him to attain success! Amen!
