Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The journey has begun

My Aaron left today for Great Lakes. We spent the day with him at MEPS. That took forever! We watched him swear in and took great pictures. Then it was time to hurry up and wait. His flight was for late afternoon. As they finally lined up the Navy kids, they started counting off. My Aaron and a few others were told they had to wait again because there was not enough room in the van for the ride to the airport. So, we waited some more. He became frustrated. With barely any sleep from last night's jitters, let's just say he was edgy. Finally, an hour before his plane was scheduled to leave, he left for the airport. We kept in touch through text since he had his cell phone. He told me he was getting ready to board, so he would talk to me later. Well, forty-five minutes later, he texted to say his plane had not arrived yet, so he was still waiting. Finally, the plane got there and he left an hour and a half later than expected. While he was flying, we were driving our two hour drive back to our home. As we pulled in to the drive, I saw his truck parked in it's usual spot. I felt hot tears begin to fill my eyes -again. This is so hard. After I got over my initial bawling session, I settled in to my quiet home, waiting to hear from my flying sailor. He called me around nine to say he had arrived. Then, we were able to text for more than an hour as he went to the food court and waited to leave for Great Lakes. I feel so much better having that precious time with him. He told me he ate a Chicago dog. This is exciting. Aaron has never gone on a plane before and never been to Chicago. I only pray the dog doesn't give him heartburn, as I imagine they won't be very sympathetic when he arrives at RTC. Anyway, as I write this, I am waiting for my official "I am here" phone call. God, I love this kid. I pray he transitions well into his new life. I pray I transition well into mine. Each person chooses there own path in life. I hope he absolutely loves his (although I doubt he will right away). Either way, the journey has begun.

There is some relief in this journey starting after the long wait...

I was very sad to see my son go, but at the same time I tell myself it will be a good start for him and his adult life. that is what I tell myself but I still find it hard to go into his roon or at least do any cleaning up in there makes me sad. my son asa left a week ago for boot and I just got he kid box today, oh boy what a weird feeling cant wait for the first letter. hang in there thought we are all in this together

Comment by Dave's Mom on August 10, 2011 at 7:38pm: i feel your pain my 1st born son left on 7/11 i cried for the 1st 3 weeks everyday it was so hard but after getting his 1st letter & getting his 1st phone call it made everything alright. He's really homesick but he's his enjoying his new adventure. We purchased our ticket on Sunday for his PIR now just counting the days till 9/1. Good luck all you ladies.
