Last night was Aaron's pre-boot camp bash. We had a great time. He had tons of friends and family come to wish him well. There was food, music, and good times. I left a pad of paper and pens out for guests to write him notes. During boot camp, I will mail one note each day, along with my hundreds. I think he will get a kick out of reading them.

I'm feeling really melancholy today. Two of Aaron's really good friends spent the night last night. Before they left this morning, I took pictures of the three amigos. It hit me that this is probably the last time they will be together for a long time. My heart began to ache. As soon as they left, I had myself a good, long cry. What the heck am I going to do when I have to say goodbye to him?

I get very encouraged when I read the other blogs of the moms who have gone through this. Last week I received a blog response from a mom who said it does get easier. I can't wait for that to happen. I know I will be fine. I just have to adjust to my new role in my kids' life. My older son will be traveling to California for a vacation next week. I am excited for him, but of course, I am nervous because he'll be so very far from me. I tell you, when I took on the role of mommy, I wasn't playing! I am looking back, and I think I have always been a helicopter mom, hovering over my babies. LOL! Do you think the Navy has a need for helicopters? just kidding... (mostly)

Anyway, updating this blog periodically is very therapeutic. Thanks for reading or responding. Thanks for not thinking I am an insane woman. Thanks for letting me have an occasional pity party. Today's blues have already lifted. Today's pity party is over. I am sure I'll be writing again...soon.

Yes, he is. He is also the youngest of 2 boys. The oldest is in college, but only an hour away.

Well Aaron's mom...unfortunately when he leaves for bootcamp it will be the hardest thing you have ever done. You will cry hopefully not too badly in front of him and beleive me you will have LOTS of those pity parties you spoke of.I just had one as I read your comment. But it's ok to do that if we didn't there would be something seriously wrong. We love our kids it is only  natural for us to be sad and miss them when they are gone.I look at it this way,at least they are off doing something wonderful and we know they are safe. Some kids leave home and get into drugs and all kinds of trouble. But not ours. And they know they are loved.Hang in there and the best of luck on your ship date!God Bless!

Thank you, Proudmama. Is yours still in boot camp? I like the way you look at things. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that our kids will stay clean and out of trouble.

Amen!  hugs to you.  I am beginning my 3rd week, can't believe he's already been gone three weeks.  Last night I crawled in his bed and slept like a baby.  I miss him so much it's crazy.  I am thankful that he's a smart, great kid and I'm so proud of him!!

Hi!  My youngest boy (his name is Aaron also) is leaving for bootcamp in the morning.  I already have one in the navy.  He's been there for more than a year and a half.  It was very hard to let him go and I miss him every minute of every day and now I'm doing it all over again.  I know exactly what you're feeling.  It will  get easier.  The hardest part is bootcamp when there's very little contact.

Hugs to you, Glenda. I so feel your pain, since we are in the same exact place. Our boys will be off to GL in less than a month!! I am savoring the days, but they are flying by! I send prayers and understanding! ♥ ~Dale

Comment by Aaron's mom on July 10, 2011 at 9:54pm
Proudmama, he ships out August 8, along with another mom's son who I met here on N4M. By the time yours graduates, mine will be gone for a couple of weeks. I expect mine will graduate in October then he will be off to Connecticut. Where does yours go for A school?

OK well then you have abou a month yet.Enjoy it try not to spend your time worrying about him leaving.Just be prepared for not hearing from him too much during BC,that's the part that stinks the most.Just pray for him and once you get the PIR (pass in reveiw) letter with his address write him like crazy and talk to us here, that will get you through.Take care I will keep you and your son and all these kids and moms in my prayers!
