OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Today in History. Teddy Roosevelt, Iwo Jima flag raising, and the Seige of the Alamo.

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

26th President. 1901-1909. Teddy was one of the Greatest Presidents. From 1922-1948 Navy Day was set aside to honor Teddy, as the father of the modern American Navy.

His name is forever identified with the growth and expansion of the American Navy.

In 1897 he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

He was a Colonial in the rough riders during the Spanish American War. Polo players and cowhands alike accompanied him up San Juan hill. Yes, he trekked through the Amazon, but the Piranha story was a myth.

Also, today is the anniversary of the Feb 23, 1945 Raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. Joe Rosenthal took the famous photo. One of the men who raised the flag was a Native American Indian. Ira Hayes was from the Pima Tribe.

Also, today is the anniversary of the 13 day seige of the Alamo which began Feb 23, 1836. Lots of myths surround the Alamo also. http://thealamo.org/battle/myths.php

Very Interesting.

We especially love to hear stories about the ships and engagements. Come post pictures of your family. Many Navy moms here have 2, 3 and even 4 generations of family members in the Navy! Post your pictures in the discussion groups and let us know about any museums you've been to lately.

My bucket list includes visiting the Nimitz museum in the Hill Country in Texas, and Pensacola.
