TRYING TO MAKE PLANS FOR GRADUATION..... PLEASE HELP...

Making plans for graduation is very frustrating because of all the ifs and not knowing.  Fortunately, my son has been able to call several times he said something about it being a reward. My son is going to be going to A school in Mississippi and from what I have read it says he will get liberty for that day proceeding graduation and ship in the AM because his A school is out of state.  But, when he called he said to book the flights and rooms for 3 days, because he wasn’t sure if his liberty will be 1-3 days.  He won’t know until the day of graduation.  He clearly said he will be able to stay at the hotel with us overnight.  He is married does that make a difference with his liberty?  We would like to book the rooms closer to attractions we want to visit if he can stay with us.  If not then of course we would book the rooms closer to base.  From my understanding the only graduates who get weekend liberty are the ones staying at Great Lakes for A school.  All out of state A schools ship the day after graduation.. from what I have read. He didn’t say his A school changed, so I’m confused.  He was a delayed shipper because he was waiting for a transfer from one job to another to take place.  It never happened do you think it may have finally gone through? But from what I remembered his A school would have been out of state too.. Do you think he may have choosen a different job to transfer too? Is that posible? He did get a 90 on his ASVAB test, so they were trying to push it.  I also know his fitness test are going to good becasue he's been in competive sports since he was 5.  He did say they put him in charge of squad I think some kind of leader or something... I really wish he would have called my dad instead of me, becasue he's a Retired Navy Officer it would have made more sense to him.. Instead here I am trying to figure it out...Sorry if my message is all over the place I'm just trying to figure this whole thing out…pulling my hair out.. urgh..

I don't know about the out of state A schools, but since you're coming from CA, I would book the 3 days at the hotel and arrange flights for that time also.  Just in case he has more time than just Friday, you'll be ready for him to stay with you. Hope it all works out well for you!

Since he will most likely fly out the day after PIR, plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will give you more information on that. He WILL NOT be able to stay with you in the hotel overnight. It is sad that someone is getting his hopes up with that inforamaton since that will not happen since no overnight Liberty is authorized for any new Sailor PIR weekend at this time of year (it happens for some in December, but the Sailor is on Leave and not on Liberty at that time). Being married does not change that. Only he will know his flight itinerary and he won't know that a day or so before PIR (some find out that morning). It is unlikely that he has reclassified for another rating without telling you.

Join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the members) as well. The Page, Recruit Petty Officer Positions, will have information for you if you know what positiion he has. Go to http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for his PIR date to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.

What is his rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups on here for most of the ratings and/or "A" Schools.
