I have been reading the blogs, the discussions, everything I can to gain as much knowledge as I can to ensure my son is "well cared for" by mommy, even while in bootcamp! haha! Anyway, from day one, all the recruiter ever told me was "Nothing but the clothes on his back, then just plain 2 or 3 page letters until PIR". OK, now Im reading through the posts on this site, and I see moms who send their kids envelopes and stamps! OH NO!! I thought that was taken care of for him, so I put together a quick letter and stuffed inside 2 stamped envelopes yesterday. Another post said the kids can call, and holy crap HE NEEDS A PHONE CARD! I never sent one, should I now? He left for bootcamp on July 25th (my poor son with the "Im just figuring it out now" mom!!) Should I grab him some phone cards? I didnt think he was allowed! Im so confused! I cannot and willnot call his recruiter to ask - when I asked him for my sons address, he gave me the wrong one (I swear it was on purpose! ;)) When I called him to say I found a different address for that ship/division here on N4M, he read me the riot act about me not thinking he was competent enough and whatever else he screamed. Soooo....my tried and true knowledgable ladies are going to have to help me out here! Lemonelephant, I KNOW I will hear from you on this one (you always come through!! Plus, I sent you a friend req, now all I need is your number on my speed dial! hahaha) Anyway, I dont want to deprive my son of anything he can have, or might need, in order to feel connected to home. I have done the letters everyday, and numbered them as others have suggested. I thought I was doing everything right...until I started reading! Mail comes around 2:00 here for me, so I need your ladies input and I need it ASAP! Thanks,I know I can always count on you all!

Go to http://callsforrecruits.org/ and send an email to get free phone cards (actually a number to call and PINs to make calls).  Do that ASAP and get them in the mail.  He will not be able to call without a calling card, but he can buy one at the NEX or a buddy may give him one of the free "cards" to make a call.  Don't worry, you should be able to get them to him before his division should be able to call in week 3 or 4. Thanks for the compliment and a laugh, just ask on my comment wall or in a PM or ask anywhere and someone will answer. (I am having surgery Friday and will most likely be off the site for a few days.  There are lots of great people on here with accurate info and support for you.)  Send the phone cards and your love and encouragement and you and he will both be fine.
