OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

PS: while on the phone with Joey I heard a RDC yelling something about pizza party tomorrow. I thought that was pretty cool :)

Hey Heidi! I got my call around 3 too! I was so excited to hear from him, but he sounded so exhausted it sort of made me sad. Joey mentioned maybe more call time tomorrow too - I hope so because I have a bunch of things I forgot to ask / tell him, heh oops. But I got what I need to bring to the airport out of him, so thats good. When I mentioned bringing some of his own underwear he got REALLY happy, it's totally the little things.

I'm planning on going to the M&G, I just got my sash done :)

I think you left me a comment that I was going to respond to later, but now I can't find it! I'm still figuring out how to negotiate this site well. My son is going to be a Nuke, and was a Grad & Go (ship 13, div 244), with PIR set for 7/23, but he had his appendix out Saturday, and won't be discharged from the hospital until Thursday (maybe). We're still waiting to see what happens next.

Heidi, I'm so glad you got a letter!! I'm not sure what day the PI is either, but 4 hours of liberty = awesomeeeee && plenty of opportunities to make calls :)

BS21 = 7/18...atleast thats what other moms have told me. So I think that means we should get the "I'M A SAILOR" call on the 19th ?? I'm not sure about that one. When he does call you should ask for the information on his calling card...you might be able to add minutes to it for future calls. I sent Joey off with a huge phone card, then my parents and a bunch of church friends gave him some. I think he ended up leaving with like 6. haha.

Some of Joey's letters have alot of information, and then others have like absolutely none. No letters today...I guess that means monday I'll be back to staking out the mailbox :)

I pretty much staked out the mailbox all afternoon. These were the first letters I've gotten in awhile. It sounds like mail was getting backed up before the holiday. Just keep writing & I'm sure you'll hear from him soon! I'm sure he's not the only doing poorly...from what Joey's recruiters told me boot camp tests are pretty easy for anyone who managed to score high enough to be a nuke.

I've written about 3 letters asking for BS dates, but I'm guessing he hasn't gotten them to write back yet. I'm kinda freaked about this gas chamber...I didn't even know that was part of this.

Keep your head up, we're only 2 weeks away now!! :)

I got a phone call today! I hope you did too!! Joey said he knows your son, at first he thought it was kinda odd that I was talking to other guys moms....but once I explained how it helped and kept us all in the loop he thought it was pretty awesome. He said they all did significantly better on their second test (well as a division) so thats good news & that they were probably going to march under the fireworks tonight. I'm glad they can enjoy the traditional 4th of July moments.

Heidi,

I recieved a letter monday, tuesday and yesterday! I don't know how I got so lucky. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a phone call soon! It's been about 2 weeks since I got one -- he had about 8 minutes. My husband is 20, he'll be 21 in November. I have no idea what is job will be, he hasn't told me yet. I'll have to ask him about that one. I'm pretty sure he's a grad and go as well since he told me he will be leaving on saturday for Charleston. He said he'll have 2 weeks before A school...but I have a feeling thats because he has to come up and move me -- but he only gets 2 days to do that. I'm defiently going to PIR. I can't wait! I've been counting down the days since he left - 5/19.

I hope the RDCs did have a "special" birthday treat in mind for you son...extra IT or something. Someone told me recruits get an extra phone call for their birthday but I never figured out if that was true or not.
