Can any on you advise me where I can get a phone card? I received a letter today from my brother today and he asked if I can send him a phone card. I have looked at Walmart before and at Walgreens, but I couldn’t find anything. Will any of you please let me know where I can get this? I know they can buy it at the base, but I’m assuming he doesn’t have a lot of money. Also ... he rarely ask for anything, I would hate not to send this. Thank you.

I think we got ours at CVS back in 2012 when my son went to BC.  The important thing is you need to look at the fine print and make sure it is for a "payphone" or "landline" - not just for a mobile phone.  That is the important thing - at least it was back then.  And yes I remember having to look around a bit to find the right card.  It sure would be easier if he bought one at the NEX - that way you would know it's the right one!  But either way - hopefully you can find one and get it sent to him ASAP.  Good luck!

Thank you so much for replying. Just came from cvs and it says mobile only. Heading to Walgreens now to check. It is so hard to find the right phone card. I don’t believe he has enough money coz he said a lot of the things they have are actually being deducted from their check. I really am grateful for your reply.

Thank you so much @skywatcherchicago. I finally found a phone card from Walgreens. It is a Walgreens brand ... I just bought the one with the most minutes and mailed it yesterday. I figured ... it’s the best value for the money since everytime he makes a call, even if he doesn’t reach the person he is calling, it subtracts 20 minutes from his phone card. That’s what he told me when he called last Saturday.

Thank you so much for your help and reply.

Hi There from previous posts Some were saying that not all the phone cards were working on there Phones, Your Brother can purchase one thru the NEX he should have money on a card that is given to them for things that are needed. Here is the site to show when they get paid. But otherwise best buy, wal mart, walgreens, CVS should have calling cards I also heard of Penny talk. See http://www.pennytalk.com/.

If you choose to buy a regular calling card, Walgreens sometimes has them on sale at a reduced price and there are other places as well where you can obtain them such as CVS Pharmacy that has a reloadable phone card for $40.00 for a thousand minutes and 10% off the reload.  Some cards are already activated once they are purchased, but others are not, so be sure to activate the card before you send it so your Recruit does not have to waste valuable time and minutes doing that. It has been suggested that you purchase one that has at least 400 minutes on it, partly because 10 to 20 minutes is used up each time the card is accessed even for a short call; 200 minutes is adequate for most though. You can also make a copy of the card before mailing it and check every now and then to see how many minutes remain and add minutes since some are reloadable. Virtual calling cards are also available on the web. These are an 800 number and a PIN that your recruit must enter to make the call. These are reloadable and if you keep the information, you can check the balance and add minutes if needed. Phone Cards and Phone Calls When Will the Recruits be Paid? and Information for Spouses

Hope this helps you some.
