For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Phone cards and phone calls
I am wanting to buy a phone card to send to my daughter in boot. Some phone cards say they are for "non-payphones" but get more minutes. My questions is...other than the initial phone call, if they get to make a call home during boot are they using payphones or regular landline phones? TIA

I wasn't sure about this either, but wanted to be sure my son could use it anywhere, so I bought a $25 AT&T card from Walmart that can be used for either and it'seems reloadable. I took a picture of the front and the back so I can keep track of the minutes left on it and keep it loaded for him. We got our first call from him yesterday (YAY!) and the card worked like a charm (he arrived there 2/9, PIR 4/7). He received the letter with the card 4 days after I mailed it from home in Texas, so he received it well before they assigned his call time. I hope this helps.

They use pay phones but they will be able to buy a calling card when they go to the base exchange to get supplies the first time. My sailor still had minutes on his by the time he finished BC. He has never really had need to use it since, I'm not even sure that now, 3 years later, he still has it. My sailor called home the first time at 4 weeks post departure and then had 2 more calls home before the I'm a sailor call. His group was the first in his training group to have BS21 but they only earned 1 extra call so... . Keep those phones on and on you at all reasonable times, I missed the first call home!! I know you don't feel like it but this is the Hard, easy part. Communication is Hard in BC but you know where they are at all times. After BC, you may hear from them more but you will not always know where they are!

My son left for boot camp last week. We had a really hard time finding a calling card in stores (some people didn't even know what we were talking about!) but eventually did at CVS. The manager even told us that if we took a copy of the bar code on the back of the card, we could bring it in to add minutes to it if we ever needed to. I doubt he'll use all the minutes on it during boot camp but it was a nice thing to keep in mind.

Thanks everyone. I did wind up using Penny Talk which was so easy. I just typed the instructions with acct # and pin and sent it with a letter. If she doesn't use it all then she can use if she goes overseas.
