My daughter has been gone 2 weeks and was allowed to make her first phone call from boot camp...I am so heartbroken.... I missed the call and the voice mail she left had me upset all day.  She was in tears and kept saying how much she missed and loved me.  She said she can call again in 2 weeks and to expect a letter soon.  Guess my phone will not be leaving my side for the next 5 weeks

Bless your heart. My first call came while I was mowing. The recruiter told me to keep my phone on me at all times and I did. I only got three calls. One saying I'm here, two we were able to talk 15 minutes and the third one was I'm a Sailor. My daughter was only in for 7 weeks.
I didn't miss her first phone call, but I did miss her second one (2 weeks later) on Christmas Eve. I was upset the rest of the holdiday. On her voicemail, my daughter, like yours kept saying how she misses us. She also cried. Yesterday I decided that I have tortured myself enough by replaying that message. Our daughters know how much we miss them too. We want our daughters to learn how to move on from disappointment when they can and we have to follow our own advice. I have decided to focus on the the good things...I am thankful that she is healthy and strong and brave. It is very likely that your daughter has friends there who will comfort and distract her.

They keep up the brave face for boot camp, so letting the tears flow when they talk to mom is common. It's safe. They vent. And then they go right back to being brave again. My daughter always said just being able to cry and tell all her miseries to me on the phone made her feel better and able to cope afterwards.

My daughter was at Great Lakes less than 2 years ago. She is presently at Officer Candidate School (which is like bootcamp on steroids) so I'm going through the whole being out of contact except for letters all over again.

My first call came when I was on a youth group mission and I missed it. I was so sad to see that she called and I missed it. Now I just wait for a letter still have not got that yet. I did get her address with ship and division. We have been writing her everyday and sending it so she can be flooded when she starts receiving her mail.

I missed it last week too same VM i started crying and she called right bk. I'm soooo sorry you missed it. My heart feels your pain. Hopefully she will get one this week. Remember they are ahead of us in time. I dont move from 10-1 cali time lol
