Hi Guys! My boyfriend just got to basic training on 4/18. I'm going to be writing daily letters until I get his address when the form letter comes, but I was wondering how to send multiple letters at once. I heard that if the envelope is big, their mail gets checked and it's not recommended. I have standard 9x4" envelopes, but I know that it won't be enough to hold ~2 weeks worth of mail and I feel like it's a waste of postage too. I'm okay with putting each individual letter in its own envelope, but if there is any advice out there on how to send multiple letters to your sailor and what envelopes to use, that would be great! Thank you guys!

Hey! I did the same thing for my fiancé! I just sent them in their own envelopes and I numbered the letters and envelopes just in case he received them out of order, which he did, so he knew which ones to read first!

Use white envelopes! Not colored ones. Contrary to what everyone else says, they do not read your mail. My fiance wanted me to send silly and stupid stuff to make him smile. Write everyday!! It's the only thing they look forward to. Send the letters around 3 per envelope.

They can and will read their mail IF a lot of attention is brought to the envelopes (colored or decorated).
What I did was date the letters and when i first got his address sent like 4 in one envelope and 4 in another and the 2nd one was filled with pictures of Us as well! It'll be fine!
There can be one letter in it they open there letters in front of there RDCs to make sure there is no contraband nude photos and stuff like that. Sometimes they even read it just depends on the RDC. My husband had his letter read from his 3 year old daughter that was a photo that she drew. So it's no big deal just don't talk personal like real personal stuff. But it's no big deal they get there letters as long as it's all ok

Wow, thank you all for the quick responses! Will definitely write daily as much as I can.

I put my letters in the individual envelopes that came with the stationary with the dates written on them, and then I put all those inside a large envelope. That should make it clear to the RDC that you're just catching up on the mail. It wasn't a big deal for my husband, a little embarrassing to be the first one called in for a large envelope, but lots of guys in his division had the same situation. I got the stationary/envelopes like 25 for $5 (I went through like 3 while was gone for 2 letters a day, personal and nba scores) at Michaels, paid like 85¢ for the large envelope, and maybe $2 in postage. Michaels has tons of coupons in their app too. I also handmade my husband an address book, which had photos of him with every contact and a note from that person, his RDC thought it was really cool and let him keep it since it's not contraband. It's a fun gift idea that can keep you busy while you wait.

Oh my!! I sent my letter in a pale gray-ish kind of color!! I hope he won't get in any trouble :( I felt so bad now!

Don't feel bad, that envelope is just fine.  Most likely no one will even notice.
