My SR literally called me 3 minutes ago and we talked for approximately one minute. He said he had to go to dinner and could not talk very long. I told him that I was about to cry because I did not know how he was doing and was about to call his recruiter tomorrow for more information. He told me not to cry and he was "holding it down." Always positive with a great outlook...I miss that. He did have a cold, but said he was fine. He did not get his wisdom teeth out yet, he said that would be this week, but it is the third week so, I don't know why they waited. Anyway, he said he sent the form letter two days ago so, I should have it this week and he had to go. I feel so much better...I told him that I had a phone card to mail him and he said, he knew that I would and appreciates me. I am happy now and can continue with my evening and breeze through this pile of paperwork that I need to have completed this week for work :)

That is great that you got that call.
Did he tell you his division number?
If he just mailed the form letter two days ago, then he had extra P-Days and is just beginning his first week of actual training. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
I asked him if he had just finished processing and he said, they had gotten that done already and that everything was just taking an extra long time for some reason that he didn't know. He said, that he had done his swim qual already and they were at their ship, but he did not have time to go and get the address and it would be in the letter. He also said, he did not know his PIR date yet, because the division was short of recruits...pretty much that is all he said before going to dinner.
The PIR date will be in The Form Letter, so that statement was a little strange. The rest of what he said confirms that he is in an integrated division and had to wait on others to fill the division.
Well, we will see soon :) First-class mail from Chicago to my area takes four days so, I expect to have the letter by Tuesday. I am only assuming that he only filled in the required info and did not read the letter. He arrived at bc at 2:00 in the afternoon on May 1st and from reading the posts I know SR were arriving steadily throughout the evening so, I don't know why he would have extra p-days...especially not having his wisdom teeth out. I thought that would have been done before he moved to his ship. He had a lot of orthodontic work done and recently got his braces off and I wanted to know what the dentist had to say...but, I guess I will have to wait on that news. I am just happy that he is doing well at this point and is in good spirits. Thanks for sharing your knowledge lemonelephant. I don't know what to do without your wisdom.
You can still call the recruiter tomorrow and get the address and check it against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.html or Ship/Division--How it Works and send letters. I believe that he is in an integrated division and there are fewer females arriving than males and integrated divisions take longer to fill than male divisions.
Wisdom teeth are not removed during P-days and they have no affect on the PIR date.
I thought the wisdom teeth were removed before they started training...sucks because I know he is going to be in pain and wanted him to just get it over with.
Nope, it's near the end of the second week of training. Later for some. See the Day by day in http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433.
The Navy only does dental work that is needed. The dentists at the RTC consider if there may be a problem in the future and remove one, two, three, or all four of the wisdom teeth if needed. If there is a question, they may indicate that the teeth are to be checked at "A" School and removed then if needed. They also may put off removal of wisdom teeth until later if there is dental work that needs to be taken care of first. Some may not need any wisdom teeth removed; my son still had his wisdom teeth when he was retired after 6 2/3 years of service. If it is determined that the recruit does need to have one or more wisdom teeth removed, this is scheduled at a time that will be the least disruptive to training and often several in the division have it done on the same day so they are recovering together. The recruits have 2 days SIQ and have someone who checks to see that the recruits are taking their pain meds and drinking plenty of water as directed. They then have at least one day of LLD and must be checked before returning to full training. This is similar to the recovery time given in the civilian world. They are well taken care of and there have been recruits who were happy to have the time to rest and others who didn't have to have the teeth removed who wished that they had once they saw how their shipmates were treated while they had to clean the head or do other jobs in the compartment and continue with PT. Having any or all of the wisdom teeth removed does not normally change the recruit's PIR date.
If your recruit requires additional dental work, he will get that on board the USS Osborne. (See http://www.lovell.fhcc.va.gov/locations/USSOsborne.asp.)
Thanks, that is good to know that he will be fine :) I am a worrier by nature.
You are very welcome.
DaisyMay, it will all depend on if he has room in his mouth or not and if it is anticipated that they will give him problems in the future. The Navy would rather take them out in BC than to have them give him problems when he is underway in the fleet when there is no dentist available.
