It is so much different then sending them to college. My son went down South last Fall on a great lacrosse scholarship. He negotiated very well for himself. I was excited. We secretly couldn't believe he didn't join the Military. I was psyched worked a lot extra to pay for what was left. 4 weeks into it...he called and said I'm packing the car and coming home. I was like Hell no. You are finishing a semester. At least get some credits for all this time and effort. He is a stern young man and determined. He came home and worked and milked cows for the farmers.

December 22nd rolls around. I'm on cloud 9. My older Airforce son is done with his 7 year contact, He is Nat. Guard. I'm like dancing and singing all day. I text him....so happy blah blah. No response. About 3pm this son who just left for boot camp comes in the house..."Momma I joined the Navy today and I'm going to serve under Mad Dog Maddox". Ok...sucker punched....then in the evening...call older son...you never responded to me to day...I decided to sign a new contract. Cruel kids! I think I was crying soon after  along with some naughty words for each of them!!

They think it is a hoot and I was told.".you need to toughen up!"  Well I will not forget that date. My husband and I were very surprised by both of them. But they don't realize the energy we put into worrying especially when deployed. But I am so grateful for the love they feel for their country.

For my older son-I always prayed for him and the people that surrounded him and the trainers. It takes them all to get prepared for what lies ahead. This is now my prayer for this boot camp. They need one another to succeed.

I always knew it...but we saw it first handed 3 years ago when my Airforce son got married. All his Afghanistan crew was at his wedding. The love they have for one another...the bond was amazing. We witnessed it. They thanked us for having him and raising him. Can you imagine 24 year old guys saying that! It made my heart sing. My prayers were answered and he is surrounded by great people. They are a family.

I find comfort in this,  because it is happening now with our sons and daughters in the Navy. We should all be proud. The unity is amazing. Good luck to our "babies". I pray for strength for all of us---moms.

Jennifer, your story is very inspirational. I needed to see that now. My only son is leaving for great lakes on June 29. I'm so proud but yes, the tears still fall. I have 2 nephews in the army. One deployed..... taking it day at a time! We raised great kids, God Bless them, and their families!!

Let them fall. It is a process especially when you can't plan anything. So much unknown. I find it hard to have compassion with my friends b/c they are crying that their kids are a hour away at college! Good luck to your son and nephews. I'm a praying fool. I have all my friends and family saying novenas etc. But after my son swore in and we were saying good bye......he didn't say I love you.....he said "I should have gone to see my cows one last time!"  I was like really! But it showed me he was okay and ready! If he had been mushy it would have been really hard. I feel a peace about it. I cant explain it....Holy spirit may be giving me what I need and him! My daughter stated...the house is going to stay clean now! There is always humor in it,

Your story has helped!  Oldest daughter arrived at BC on 6/13/17.  She decided on her own to join at 15.  Planned her life around the Navy, honor student, Sea Cadets, etc.  Now like you, her dad and I were surprised to hear our youngest daughter state that she is also looking to join the Navy.  I am/will be proud of both of them wherever the seas or wind takes them.

wow that is dedication at a very young age. She sounds determined. I like that. I bet they are all together. I have one kid left. I don't see her joining the military but you never know! You have the right attitude, I have had to work on mine!

My daughter was similar in her planning and completed a short sting with Sea Cadets (she was in about 11th grade when we found out about it but nonetheless was VERY helpful).  She researched to the T though.  I could ask her anything about anything and she knew the answer!  Good for them for committing! My daughter left 6/13 as well- off to A school in TX afterwards as she chose to be a Corpsman. :)

Our girls might be together. My daughter will be staying at GL to go to A school as Damage Control.

I love this! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the encouragement.  I know it'll be rewarding for us and for them... :) Definitely "not for nothing."

Our kids might be together! I have not received the box yet! I was hoping today. Your daughter sounds driven! Don't you wonder sometimes where it comes from? How they know at a young age what they want to do....its neat. I just want them all to stay strong and get through BC.
