For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Heartaching gf
Navy life has become a regular topic in my life. I talk about it all the time and I've got all the gear bragging about my sailor. As much as people can say just be strong, they don't have any idea what it's like. I feel in the dark and cut off from my other half.
It's hard finding people to talk to. Even though I'm not a navy mom, this site/discussions have been the most comforting and informative.
Optomistic things
1: I know his graduation date
2: I have the address to send letters.
Can the bootcamp portion speed up a little? Lol

Hi Lauren/Carly,
My fiance left on the 6/12 and graduates on 8/11 so it's a little over halfway through for us right now! The first week for me was the hardest and I quite literally felt like there was an elephant sitting on my chest. Sleeping alone, even going grocery shopping without him, and just doing everyday life without being able to talk to him or see him everyday was a shock to the system.
The best advice I got from a friend that has already gone through this with her husband a few years back is that "it doesn't get easier but you get stronger." Even now, there are still moments when it's extra hard and you have a little (or a big) breakdown but it's okay not to be okay all the time! You'll start getting the letters and hopefully, they will be able to call you about 3 weeks or so in so you can hear their voice and reassure you that they're okay. For me, it's really helped to write him every day! I mail them every few days and it gives me some sense of normalcy to talk about my day and tell him things we would usually discuss!
The days will feel SO slow at first but time will start to pass quicker and before you know it, you'll be making plans and heading to Great Lakes to see them graduate! I know it's frustrating when people say to "stay busy" because even on our busiest days before we would still talk to/see them but it really does help the time pass quicker! For me being busy with work, wedding planning, and doing a beach trip with friends has made the time seem to speed up! Remember boot camp is only temporary and will be over soon. I know it's SO HARD, but you got this!

I like that advice; "it doesn't get easier but you get stronger." I will soon be starting sophomore year in college so I guess it's positive that he is starting his career as I'm working towards mine :) blessed to have this group. We're a little over the two week point since he started bootcamp. I'm trying to stay patient for a letter. I just NEED to hear from him. He's my best friend and I'm so looking forward to seeing him at PIR on august 25th!

Hey Lauren! You're doing a great job staying strong for your sailor. My boyfriend doesn't leave till October but every day that we get closer I start getting more said. I can relate a lot because my boyfriend is definitely my bestfriend and my rock! I have no idea what I'm gonna do without him when he's in bootcamp. If you ever need someone to talk to I'm here!

Thanks Sephra. Our goodbyes left me in a good place. I had the panic "what am I going to do without you" emotional goodbye with him. And then I had the lovey dovey kiss kiss goodbye with him before dropping him off at the hotel the night before he ships out. So when the shipping out ceremony, our goodbye was confident and positive and prideful. Still miss him dearly. I feel blessed to have found this site. No one near me has experienced this and it's so great to have this support. Thank you! ;)

Im sorry.. I am a Navy Mom my daughter just left for bootcamp 2 days ago. Im so heartsick. BUT I know its not going to be forever . IT WILL GET BETTER. Prayers for you in the coming days

Congratulations to your daughter!! The first week was rough. And I still get sad from time to time but that's normal I guess. You should receive a letter from your daughter with the mailing address and her expected graduation date in the next few days! Look forward to that info.

Sign up for USPS informed delivery. My son left June 29, was 2 weeks exactly before I got form letter. Long wait! Sadly, he gets 9 weeks at BC cuz he arrived Thursday night and not enough peeps to fill division....so delayed his PIR

Keep on this site, join all groups that are relevant to your SR. It takes the sting out of the loneliness....talking to others with loved ones at RTC.
