For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Most places will let you go with before they leave. It was actually a really great thing for our family. We took our other two boys and my son's girlfriend. We stayed at the same hotel as our SR the day before, and were able to spend most of the day with him. He had to check in and out a few times, but he hung with us the rest of the day, went swimming with us. It was a really great day, and lots of family memories with his brothers. We met him at MEPS the next day and watched the ceremony, it was short but so moving. I was so proud. We got some goodbyes and it was a good day.
We sent our son with some stamps, a calling card and an address book. Also some bandaids and moleskins in his wallet.

Yes, you should be able to see her sworn in. Check with her to see if she wants you to do that and with the recruiter to see what you will need to do to be able to do so. If the MEPS is on a base, then you will need a pass to get in.

maybe a calling card and do know she might call you once she is there from a payphone or borrow someone's cell phone. We saw my son sworn in. That was really cool and a very special moment and a tear jerking one for me. Cause it was REAL and exciting. Hard to let go of one's kid!
Don't know if you've been told but ALWAYS keep your phone close at hand or on you ALWAYS while shes in boot. Later in the weeks her group may let them call home. You don't want to miss any calls. Graduation is SOOO exciting. Bring a good camera or keep your cell phone charged for videos and pictures. She might get to you tell you just exactly where she will be in formation at graduation. My son did so I knew roughly where to look for him on the floor. Plus he was one of the bunch that carried a state flag so I definitely knew where he was.
Remember its NOT a good bye its a SEE YOU LATER we say.

Austins mom, thank you so much for the information. I know I am so excited but freaking out all at the same time. I have been processing it all for a while but now that it's here I am sad. But I know she willl do great things and I am super proud of her. Did you go to the airport to see your son off? Tell your son thanks for the info xoxo

Yes we did he gave us a call was somewhere around 2 o'clock in the morning that was hard getting up. Poor kid took a nap while he was waiting for his flight and then he texted me some more as to where his seat was after he got on the plane so I watched him and waved to him as he took off. I watch that plane till I couldn't see it anymore. Another heartache saying see you later.

Awww I am sure. This is probably the hardest thing we will go through as a family. I have 4 children, Emily is my oldest. It is so exciting for her but scary for us and her siblings to not see her. Thank you so much for all of your advice. Xo

The "I'm here!" call is no longer made from a pay phone, It must be made from a cell phone, either the recruit's or a borrowed one.
Most calls after that are from a pay phone. It is important to know how to use a calling card.
Also, let your future Sailor know that when calling from the pay phones if it is hard to hear, the recruit can try adjusting the volume on the phone. It works for some.

Hi Erin. The recruiter should have a paper for her to list who is coming to the swearing in. She needs SS card. 20.00 prepaid phone care. Small BiBle. I went to bank and got my name on my son's account and they filled out a 1199...or 1099 form for him to take. There is a list in the magazine that she has probably been studying from. The recruiter gave my son one! I was in your boat in June. Glad it is over. Wish her well...you must be so proud. He said lie low..go with the flow. First 3 weeks were the hardest then a routine started. He said it wasn't so bad! Lol...that's of course bc it is all done!
