Can anyone share with me what they found to be a good hotel to stay in and which airport would be better to fly into. I have read about the Navy Lodge? Thanks

Ellen0502 I know the parents cant take them to airport but I thought they can meet him there and wait with them? I know some of the moms did go to airport last weekend and waited until they left, has that changed?

As far as I know, the parents are still allowed to meet their sailors at the airport. We did for PIR 8/25/17. If the airport is still allowing it, the parents may go through security with their sailor. We had to have our ID and be presented with a guest pass to the terminal, going through security with our sailor and then we were allowed to stay with them until they boarded the airline.

Sailors flying out to A school are not allowed to have their cell phones on RTC after PIR, so the only way they can get them is for someone to meet them at the airport with their phones or mail it to them once they reach "A" school.

You can certainly meet your Sailors at the airport and wait at the gate with them until their flight leaves.

CAB was asking if they can take their Sailor to the airport.

CAB - to make sure I answer you directly, no, you are not allowed to take your sailor to the airport as Ellen0502 also responded. But you are allowed to meet them at the airport and give them their phone.

Thank you Chipmunk and ellen0503 for the info. This is very informative. I'll leave it up to my sailor. I might be to much for him..:)

We flew into Midway and rented a car.  No fear of traffic for us!! We stayed at the Navy Lodge.  Clean rooms and Comfy beds. We originally booked a room w/ a Kitchenette but changed it at the last minute as we wanted to spend time w/ our sailor not cooking and cleaning! We stayed till Sunday evening just in case and it was a good thing we did!! NO sleep from the time we got there till our Sailor left Saturday morning! If I had it to do again I would fly into Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport-- With traffic and crazy roads and such it really won't take any longer to drive from there than from Ohare or Midway!  We liked the ability to go when and where we choose and not be waiting on a Taxi or shuttle although nearly all the hotels in the area have one!  Go on Wednesday/ EARLY Thursday if you can swing the extra time off just so you aren't so tired come Friday Morning. We had flight delays that didn't have us in Chicago until 11:30pm, arriving at the hotel at 2am. We were up at 5am Friday Had a cat nap Friday night (10-12) then back up to drive to Ohare to spend the rest of the night/morning with our sailor before he flew to A school.  We then drove back to the Hotel to sleep!  Got up later that afternoon to sight see near base then Sunday we drove down to Chicago to play tourist, turn in our car and fly home.  Enjoy your visit!!

Yes we are flyinginto O'hare Wed mrng so I have Thursday to get my tickets to the graduation. Then we leave Sund afternoon. I was just planning to rent a car so we could be on our own time!! Or on my sons time.. Thank you
We booked a room at La Quinta.. the navy lodge is booked
My husband read some bad reviews about the Navy lodge. Anyone have experience with this?
Just throwing this out there, most people fly into Ohare and Midway. To be honest you should check out Milwaukee first, prices should be cheaper and it's a much nicer and easier airport. It is technically farther however you litterally just get on the highway and it's a straight shot to Great Lakes. It will take you way less driving time because you don't have Chicago traffic.
