Well, from the look of this forum it looks like no one has been hurt during bootcamp lately. I'm happy for other recruits and their parents that are not having to go through the agony. Unfortunately, my seaman recruit daughter and this anxious mother is in the throes of it. She was doing really well until the dreaded call this evening. I am going to take the advice of the previous postings and send her funny and uplifting encouragement. I am praying she heals fully from her stress fractures and is able to continue on with her dream. If anyone has any other suggestions or stories to share of how they overcame an injury and succeeded- then it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

ArtsyNavyMom, please accept my sincere apologies for the situation you're in. Chin up! It's actually worse for YOU than it is for your SR; really! With that being said, I believe there is a group on FB similar to this one. Find them. It will help you. 5 years ago, THIS was the best support group around, but times changed and so did the venue. Hence, no more postings. Find them on Facebook, please, you'll be glad you did. Prayers for you and your SR.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will definitely look for the FB site. I have received two brief phone calls from her and her attitude seems to be fairly positive. She is in phase one of the rehabilitation and is hopeful that she will be assigned to a new unit in four weeks. Thank you for your prayers!

Hey Kristina, this is Kim! This is where I first started trying to reach out for help. I found the FB site and that is where we made contact this past week. I think they do have options...but let's hope that she does not choose home. She was so close! Have you heard anything from her? Hopefully, she has calmed down and has had some reassurance from a doctor. From what I understand a fibula fracture is not hard to heal and should have no lingering effects. Would be a shame for her to come home now! Keep reassuring her. Hopefully, my daughter has found her and is trying to help her. Hang in there, I know you are going crazy. I did too!

We also just found out our son is in RCU for a stress fracture. 1/2 way thru BC. Looking at an extra 6-8 weeks last we heard. He seemed to be doing well, spirits were still up...my main objective now is to find ways to help keep them that way. I can't imagine the devastation they feel when the momentum you've built gets interrupted due to something so outside your control....but we told him, it IS what it is. Just remember why you started and stay the course, bumps in the road are only challenges and challenges are opportunities.

I hope you've heard more by now and that her recovery is going well.
Also, what is the FB page you mentioned? I couldn't find any current.

I found out that my SR is also in RCU because of a stress fracture. I have been beside myself because I found out in a letter. This group discussion has been very helpful at relieving some of my fears. Thanks. Also, I'm also interested in the facebook group.

I would love more info in keeping my SR positive and motivated while in RCU!  He moved there on 9/27 due to stress fractures in both legs...two weeks from PIR.  Now we are looking at mid November before he is finished.  I do not want to send mail to his previous division, if Ship 04, Div 2341 is the correct address.  Can anyone confirm that?  I have reread posts from 2012 in this forum and it brings me great comfort.

Yes, that is the correct address. My son is there currently. He had 5 stress fractures in his ankle and has been there since August 15th. Send positive letters daily. On my last phone call with my son, he admitted that he was very depressed and they almost separated him because they found more issues. However, my son pulled himself out of his depression, started doing physical therapy on his own, and now found out that in about 2 to 3 weeks, will finally get back to his training. He only had 2 weeks left before his injury. Send scriptures in your letter, talk nothing about negativity, just say everything positive you can. Remind your SR of the future he has with the Navy. Good Luck, I definitely know how stressful this can be for you too.

Thank you NavyMom.  I have not spoken to my son since the quick phone call letting me know about the injury.  Hopefully we will hear from him soon. What is the street address and zip?  All i have is the ship and div number.

3600 Ohio Street, Great Lakes IL 60088-7103    I know my son told me that they can get a phone call every 2 weeks. I received my last call on the 24th, so I don't know if he will call me again. Actually, I'm hoping he doesn't because I pray that he will be back into training on October 8th. I will definitely keep you son in my prayers too.

Thank you!! I am re-addressing my letter and sending today! It's good to hear your son is doing well and moving back into training soon. Prayers are certainly appreciated and I will do the same for yours.  It's how they/we get through this

Prayers sent. May God be with you and your son.
